Thanks guys for all the info. got a good few contacts. For your info, Richard at Thompson guitars is no longer doing refinishing work.
Got a great quote from Proshine Artworks, sounds like a lovely bloke too.

Jez C - who gives a flying about f***king off the luthiers??!! I'm trying to explain to them it's a GUITAR body not a freaking CAR body!! Charging £20-£30 an hour to blokes who are earning about £8 an hour! WTF!!
Was thinking of maybe trying it myself with cans but haven't got the confidence to be honest. It's a gorgeous piece of wood and I don't wanna f**k it up with a half arsed attempt.

As long as you do in a wind free place, clean it down every time from dust and let it set (5-6 weeks) before buffing; it'll buff up a treat with a cloth and finishing compound.

Ian Scott recommended Steve (Manchester Guitar Tech) - he sell cans of Nitrocellulose laquer and stained laquers if you want. I found an autospares outside Huddersfield that does an unbranded one and its bang on

Thanks Jez, but already spoke to Steve and his cans are £15 each and he reckons at least 3 cans will do it. But the bloke at Proshine Artworks said he'd do it for £50 and for £50 it's not worth the hassle of trying to do it myself.
