Absolutely amazing
I don't do many reviews. I think my last review was Last Gang In Town and I started it by saying I'm not a big fan of punk. So I find myself in a similar situation here.
I'm not a big fan of Thin Lizzy, but I'd heard good things about Black Rose and have been wanting to check them out for months. I could name you probably 5 or 6 Lizzy hits. Last night, that did not matter one single bit. I arrived at The Jolly Nailor just in time to hear them sound check and at that point I knew I was in for a good night!
I've met Roj previously. I've chatted with Rob and drooled over Baz's drum kits on NWB and Facebook. But I'd never seen any of them play.
Let me tell you, this is an amazing band. The passion for the music they play, the swagger from Roj, the jangling twin guitars and the solid back line. All exceptional musicians and all mixed to perfection. From my (admittedly limited) exposure to Lizzy it definitely sounded like Lizzy. As close as any other Lizzy tribute band I've seen. The decent sized Jolly Nailor crowd agreed.
But that's not the point with these guys. I suspect that their mission is to play the music they love to people who love to hear it. Well they've nailed it. Track after track, the hairs on the back of my neck were on end. And there's not many bands I can say that about.
Along with Last Gang In Town, Black Rose have changed my attitude towards the music they play. They have to be one of the top 3 bands I've seen from NWB.
Well played guys. See you again soon!
