Drummer shortage

And I know why - A theory (feel free to check the grammar Viking!) :)

I went to see the 'Sealed Knot' put on a Civil War battle Re-enactment today.

During the battle it ocurred to me that the chap at the front was the drummer and so was one of the first to 'go'. It was also at that point the thought hit me that there must have been so many Rythmatists killed through out so many battles over hundreds of years. Thus leaving a large gap in the Gene pool, hence the lack of the drumming types !

I shall be contacting my Local councillor and asking him to highlight this during Prime ministers question time in the house of commons. Who know's, may be a new government programme will follow to boost the Gene pool :)

Also I will be putting out a challenge to any Drum company that can make a bass drum with the equivalent acoustic sound pressure level as those canon's.

I never understood the logic of that - it was always a bit of a kid as well. And the flag bearer whose sole job it was to carry the flag so the generals sat atop the hillside (at a safe distance) could see how far their lines had got. They never stood a chance. Cannon fodder.

lol!! why on earth would i want to do that , dude? :-P

only point i'd make to that is - reckon the government types are already trying to widen the gene pool? even edwina curry and john major were "at it"?? (dreadful picci there?). ;-/

plus-it could be argued that "natural selection" has already been in operation-any one stupid enough to become a drummer in a battle situation?? (or flag/standard bearer for that matter?) ;-P

I never understood the logic of that -

Even more illogical (captain) - I was chatting to a coulpe of the blokes with a Musket (A musketeer ?)
They went on tell me that the Battles could be called off if it rained!!!! Or would stop mid battle if weather deterioated, As they would not be able to use the Flint/firelocks !!
They did not even resort to using armed combat but would return when the weather was better...

My sister and brother in law are in the sealed knot - the womenfolk used to scamper around the battlefield scavenging from the dead - you never saw that on Sharpe!

I always thought it was frightfully polite to walk towards the enemy in bright red coats whilst the enemy just had free rein to take pot shots at them.

War is madness as they say!

Yeah 'pot shot' is a loose term - as was the shot that left barrel. Acurracy on them was something like 25%.

The poor did used to scavavenge the bodies in the aftermath to sell boots etc...

Look at us discussing 17th century culture...Eeeh it's turned into a Sunday night time team forum :)

You started it! Do you fancy singing hymns next? At least it's music related!

My brother in law and sister absolutely love the sealed knot larks - its a massive glamping weekend/piss up where blokes get to run around playing soldiers and the women are all dressed in corsets. Go figure.
