REMEMBER .. The Limelight

Well somebody has dipped into thier wallets and they have started work on the inside to reopen it.. The works taking place as I speak.....

I know a few of you have embarked upon the stage when Ray had it .... dont know if its gonna work again as the last owner fubarred it all up ... but I cant help but think that maybe with the support off bands that have played the venue that maybe it has a fighting chance to be something of what it used to represent.

Face book page is called lets buy the limelight check it out ..

Peace

Ade

I thought The limelight had alreday been sold...

That Facebook group was formed to buy it out to turn it back into a music venue but it didn't get the venue as it went to a private developer who intended to turn it into flats.

That Facebook group was in my opinion run very badly as it allowed no freedom of speech. As soon as you made a point which didn't agree with the person who runs it, your post was deleted. I know that several folk including ex staff were dead against that group.

Not for me I am afraid.

Ray sold it and the new owners stiffed a lot of bands and indeed the staff there (my understanding is that the main man is a guest of Her Majesty as I type) Shep and Alf were superb guys who we loved working with.
It WAS a superb venue in it's day.

Ray now owns The Jolly Tar....and we there in August.

The Box is the best venue in Crewe now again in my OPINION....and we there on Sat ;D

Best wishes

John

John FV - Yeah I heard the same about it being turned into flats - then the talk from a couple of business developers came to light that they are trying to turn it back around - but the days when them certain crowds who populated the venue have possibly gone - dont know how its gonna turn out but the guy that seems to be involved is a local business man -- it could all be talk but I am curious to know what the crack is.

On the other hand Ray made that place work with his character and passion and have to say that that counted for a hell of a lot and things were also easier to manage financially back then so god knows how someone with the tools of Rays calibre would actually cope now...

I remain intrigued ...

Let's hope it works out as music venue again, it was a great place when Ray had it. As you said Mutha humbucker, the local scene has moved on so it could e a struggle after the initial curiosity trade has died down.

I remember seeing Rick Wakeman on there in 2003 I think. Great gig and Rick was very approachable afterwards.

Ray Bispham ran the place superbly well. Tough act to follow.

I hope they re-hire Shep and Alf whoever buys it.

Best wishes

Might help give them a push start but dont know when the place is actually gonna be trading ... and might be far out for a few but no harm in me digging around trying to find out what the scores on the doors are
