Desert ISLAND disc ---- Your Allowed one Album any era and any genre
FOO FOOS - In Your Honour
the beatles - revolver
Revolver, sorry Black Watch, I tried to think of another but cant.
The Beatles, My pop would of wanted me to have picked that Album
Dream Theater - Scenes from a memory
its a classic. tbh i really couldve picked anything by the beatles. yeah the earlier stuff can be a bit twee but i bloody love anything by em, even the shite i may be tempted to swap for the white album (2 discs innit) BUT for now i'll keep it as revolver
Donald Fagen - The Nightfly... perhaps?
Physical graffiti
I think I'd have to go for Script of the Bridge by the Chameleons. I never tire of that wonderful album.
For me it would have to be Pride & Glory by Pride & Glory - so many differnt emotions evoked by one album, magic stuff and without a doubt Zakk at his best.
Incubas science- outstanding album for their age. I nearly never pleayed again lol
The Beatles - White Album
I'm forming some great ideas for playlists here awesome ..
well i would have gone with physical graffiti coz its the first lp i ever bought, but as thats already gone :( i'll go for photo finish-rory gallagher :)
Definitely agree with The Stan's - Donald Fagen - Nightfly. I've got a girl and Ruby is her name.....................
Electric Boys: Funkometal Carpet Ride.
...erm, dire straits alchemy, I'd probably be rescued before the end of telegraph road!
Spice Girls- Spice
a real toughie, a certain Steve Earle Album and a certain Dwight Yoakam album have me wrenched on this one but I think it would have to be The Pistols, Never mind the Bollocks ;-)
No contest Genesis: Seconds Out Best wishes John
The Eagles - Hotel CaliforniaLee :)
A Delicate Sound of Thunder-Pink Floyd Jimmy OMT
Oasis- Masterplan
I'm tempted to say Dark Side by Floyd but I'm gonna go with Sigur Ros - TakDan
Queen, Sheer Heart Attack
Jethro Tull - Aqualung AYP
Power & The Glory.....Saxon I am a Punk so there are many Punk albums on my list but Power & The Glory is a fantastic album which inspires me...only 8 tracks, but every one a belter...
@Dan - Good shout! A very close second to DT for me that one.
Abba - Visitors.
@4most.. " We got provisions and lots of beer, the keyword is survival on the new frontier " I take it your'e a hard core Fagen fan !! Lol nice one
The Clash - London Calling
Jorn - The Gathering
tough tough tough ............. Fagen's definitely up there, so is Earle ...... but would have to be The Last Record Album - Little Feat, or possibly Waiting For Columbus ... Aaaaaaarghh!!!
@The Stan's Yes we're gonna have a wing ding, a summer smoker underground....................!! Oh yes indeed. That album defined everything I wanted to do in music. Every track is a masterpiece of musicianship. Uptown, there's murder out in the street............ I actually use Lester the Nightfly as my "stagename"!!! Check out Kamakiriad if you haven't already, funked up to fuck and more neck than a giraffe!!
cream ........."wheels of fire live" (can i take the double album?) ;-D
Cheap Trick - 'Music for hangovers' (A far better live album than Budokan).
please do not post more than 165 videos per artist .........:0)
So many Donald Fagen affocianados here ............. check me out .........oh fuck me myspace seems to have expired!!c'est la vie
Doubles are included
@4most..@Willow
Oh it has so I'll sneak one more in for good luck!
check out my myspace ........ http://www.myspace.com/willowdotcom/music/songs/cousin-dupree-56654698and i've recorded New Frontier, let me know if you want to hear it!!:0)
@ Willow - loving Cousin Dupree....but where's me open hi hats? They've all gone AWOL.What I wouldn't give to be in a band that did a few Steely Dan covers. Drool......
Nic, i'm not, and will never profess to be, a drummer .... so you have to put up with what me and Mr Roland can come up with ........ i do me best!!!+1 for a steely dan band ...... but not a tribute, just a smattering of Dan amongst other great tunes ...
Agreed - I don't think I could be in a tribute band - I've got too varied a taste in music to throw my lot in with just one band. But my drum teacher introduced me to Steely Dan 3 years ago (I'd never really consciously heard any of their stuff before then but oddly I did own Nightfly and rated it as one of my favourite LP's) and since learning to play the drums I've derived most satisfaction from playing songs like Josie, Kid Charlemagne, Black Friday, Pretzel Logic and Reeling in the Years than anything else. It feels like "proper" drumming instead of just hitting things.I will forgive you your hi hat oversight since I hadn't realised it was an electronic drum track (oops what does that say of Steely Dan's drummers - that they all sound like machines!)
http://soundcloud.com/willowdotcom/15-new-frontierreally old recording!!"I hadn't realised it was an electronic drum track ......" fuck me ..... that's the best thing anyone's EVER said to me....... EVER ..... ever ......... no really ..... EVER!!!!:0)
Calm down dear! Given it was an electronic drum track you should have gone the extra mile and read the instruction book to determine how to put an open hi hat on every off beat. Slacker.......has that suitably brought you back down to earth?
nope
Ok then, I'm flattered that my opinion carries so much kudos!So...when are we getting our Steely Dan/Little Feat/Tower of Power side project together then?
@Willow, ooow yes I listened to them tracks, he he -New Frontier sounds great. I liked the jennifer Warnes cover of First we take Manhattan as well as Coen's of course, great album I'm Your Man eh? @ Nic, we used to do Do it again not that long ago and was going to do Peg, I would love to do Pretzel Logic, " I have never met Napolion but I plan to find the time... " Wonderful stuff :) Anyway one of us will have to do a Dan Blog cause I think we've basically highjacked this one! ooops
i've just been trying to learn Pretzel Logic piano part this last few weeksonly by ear tho!Parrot anyone???:0)
Side-stepping the blog-jack.......... "Blues Jam at Chess" attributed to Fleetwood Mac but just check out the other attendees!.......... Chess Records company's signed artists studio get-together recorded live!.... Superb capture of the moment!
Ah, Willow, Steely Dan covers'r never wise.A friend of mine was doing a gig at a boozer in Skipton, everything going fine, and the singer says, ' this next one's by Steely Dan' and a guy in the audience calls out, ' aw, and you were doing so well'...
Sorry, forgot the point of this blog for a minute there...How about 'It's Too Late To Stop Now' Vans' big old live double from about '72..And, incidentally, Mutha Humbucker, as an employer I can't condone such frivolous activities in work time. There is a recession on, you know. Get some bloody work done.
Impossible - but this week it would be- 'Mambo Ska' by Ska Cubano.
