Without trying to get too depressing ;)

Hi There.

Without trying to get too depressing.... ;)

I was just thinking about this the other day and I wonder if we all have a song that we love because it relates to a time in our life or a memory of people passed etc etc?

Mine is

Genesis: Fading Lights

Face Value were learning this song when my daughter Emily was born and she nearly died in the first few weeks of her life. I was driving to the hospital with this on the CD player and it will always have a very special place in my heart because of that. Plus I think it is a cracking lyric and tune.

Serious posts only please but I just wanted to know if you have a similar song to share?

Best wishes

John

@John - Great blog and a great tune. I tried something similar a while ago with a "soundtrack to your life" type arrangement. 100 songs (or thereabouts) that mean something to you for whatever reason that create a soundtrack to your life. For that reason, I've got loads of song/memories stored away.

For now I will go with this one. It reminds me of my brother:

A really emotive subject John and one that is currently on my mind. A friend of mine died in April and I'm playing a few songs at a tribute to him in October. I remember when I was first learning to play guitar and trying to get past cowboy strumming and he showed me how to play the little - hammer-on riff at the beginning of this track. Hard to listen to now but will always remind me of a great friend.

I'm going to be in and out of this blog all afternoon now John. I love this kind of stuff where music is more than just notes and words but emotion and memories. Love it! Good stuff. Keep em coming.

im not sentimental at all (as asa will probably testify) but when my little lad were born they stuck the radio on and "dont look back in anger" by oasis was literallty just starting. at first i thought it was lennon with imagine so i was well chuffed.

i cant really stand the song at all but whenever i hear it it takes me straight back, some bad memories but mostly good

I was on a business trip to Qatar when I got a phone call to inform me my father had died.I made arrange ments to fly home that day.As it was only late morning when i found out and i was not flying until 10.00 pm in the evening I walked into the hotel restuarant where I had been staying. They were playing The Living Years by Mike and the Mechanics I had to leave as it upset so much to hear the line " I was,nt there that morning when my father passed away".I,m trembling as I type this it still upsets me but I think it is a beautiful piece of music.

@John - no worries fella. We're both obviously sentimental fools lol. It's good to bare the soul now and again though. Proves you've got a heart - unless you're Ben Murray lol

When I did the soundtrack to my life, I was explaining it to some acquaintences in my local pub over a beer on a Friday night. The next Friday when I saw them, they'd all been home and done the same thing. There were some magical tales of grown men drooling over forgotten vinyl dusting off some fantastic music and some even more fantastic memories. A week later we all got together over a beer and compared lists/memories. Quite possibly one of the most enjoyable Sunday afternoons ever. Maybe we should get an NWB version going?

Best wishes

Driving home from hospital with a massive grin on my face and a cigar in mi gob to celebrate the birth of my daughter ( Romford, Essex,Feb 1986), Kate Bush came on the radio. It always takes me back to that snowy early morning ride home every time I see the Vid or just hear the song "Cloudbusting"

@ Rick....you've just reminded me of my late Nana's bonkers impersonations of Kate Bush in this video - she used to have us falling about with it. My memories of her are that she was quite staid but I have vivd memories of her whirling around the sitting room doing her Kate Bush thing at Christmas. I doted on her. I've always loved Kate Bush and I'm sure this video is a large part of the reason why - not her best song, but one that's very special nontheless.

I'm still searching for the man with the child in his eyes. But all I come up with are bloodshot, black eyed monobrowed Jerry Springer types........

Journey "Faithfully" is, was and always will be my tune.... beautiful piece of music.....have sung it to both my daughters in the early hours of the early weeks....

Having said that nearly every journey tune written could be a 'lump in the throat' moment....they are just that good at being finger on the pulse songwriters..
