Subwoofer cross over

Just a quick question

My long throws are having new speakers in and so I'm using a pair of LEM 15" subs with my passive mids and tops just for the weekend... The subs are powered so I'll be coming out of my passive crossover straight into the subs any ideas

What are you actually asking?

Active xover is the best way to go, Behringer CX3400 - http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/CX3400.aspx

If you can alter your xover you want to set it around 100/90hz.

My bad I want to make sure that I'm crossing over correctly as my crossover is set for an 18" 700 watt speaker and the subs I'm using just for tonight are 15" 400 watt subs should I lower the cross over setting a little ??

Set the crossover frequency a little higher for your subs, as they shouldn't go as low as your 18s, also they arent as powerful...So watch their volume.
Play some recorded music through your system and move the frequency till it sounds sweet..... You may have to change the frequency of your mids as the system as the system wont be balanced...... again moving the frequency till you find the sweet spot whilst playing recorded music through.... I always use the Sgt Pepper album and surprisingly enough a Robbie Williams album ( the one with let me entertain you) as they are very clear recordings!

Hello , if yer subs are powered then you wont need a feed from your ecternal xover , thye subs will have their own xover , or even at least some sort of eq etc , so any feed will do for them , even a mono feed

Not all powered subs have built in xovers, you generally find that most powered subs that do have inbuilt xovers are alays set too high, usually around 120hz.

So an active external xover is always the best bet, at least that way you can set it to what you want, within reason.
