Sip some Port! It might get you drunk, but it soothes the throat and voice!

What Black Watch said and also take spoonfuls of honey on a regular basis , Its a a natural antiseptic and has some antibiotic qualities.
Sip mint tea, its very relaxing and soothes the throat. just let it cool a little bit so its not to hot and in general drink lots of fluids. Try also to keep off diary products for a few days to cut down on any possible build up of mucus. (yuk!) and take some parecetomol (or which ever pain killer you prefer) for a few days.

Also if bad throat ever hits you unexpectedly at a gig , Rum and a bit of blackcurrant .. The rum smooths and the blackcurrant helps it stick/lubricate the throat... Honey works just as well , but isn't as much fun.

This Sanderson Throat Secific is unbelievable- the abount of SH*TE that has come out when I am gargling is unbelievable- Doing all the water- and have used the alcohol route on most occasions- this occasion is BAAAD I had no voice at all yesterday- not spoken at all today unless I HAD too- and keeping it lubricated drinking lots of water!

Try Boot`s own brand of glycerin honey and lemon linctus. Also try combining the vocalzone with a strepsil lozenge, failing that 20 woodbines !!! Works for Me !

A rusty nail is the absolute answer. But only just before you go on stage.
An old landlords medicine given to me years ago, and works every time.
Its actually whisky and drambui mixed. Its saved my gigs many a time.

Rest is the best answer. You shouldn't really be singing on a sore throat. Alcohol is totally out as it dehydrates you because it evaporates quickly. Water is good. Also singing in an appropriate key is beneficial and preventative. Try some singing techniques (need vocal coach) to help spread the work load needed away from the throat.

good luck.

P.S never strain vocally

Last time my voice went going I drank hot water and honey and fresh lemon. It really did work for me.

I have sung at gigs where I literally had NO top end to my range and that was hard.

Fell for what you going through matey as I always feel like I am letting people down when I can't sing on tip top form.

Hope you sort it.

Best wishes

John

I posted a blog a few months ago re this.

Honey ( two tablespoons ) , lemon ( couple of slices ), chopped ginger ( fresh ) in hot water and suger to taste if required.

Copious amounts of water also. Try to avoid anything that dehydrates voice ie alcohol, caffine, ciggs and believe it or not "talking " is to be kept to a minimum.

Vocal warm ups daily for half hour. Remember voice is a muscle that needs to be excercised daily.

Always get it checked out by doctor if it persists for more than a week as it depends on cause of throat issue as to how you treat it!

Shit I could write a book on this topic as I've studied it loads, lol x

Cheers donna
