Mini Mashup

...with thanks to ST for his "cutaway/picture in picture" recommendation

I've just completed a shorter than usual mashup for a NWB band who don't post but who asked me to do them a short promo recording from a recent gig they did to support Jamie "Afro' Archer from the X-Factor (FYI - he was contracted to perform for 60 minutes for an exorbitant sum and did 2 sets with a combined running time of 38 minutes. And he was poxy).

Anyway, thanks to ST and egbert for gallantly trying to help me with my Final Cut Pro problems. I still haven't managed to successfully install it but ST did come up with a couple of other ways to achieve the multi camera angle I was after. And I have to say I'm grateful to him for sharing his superior knowledge of imovie and his ideas were spot on.

So I can now incorporate film from more than one angle but use one audio track so as to ensure continuity. Syncing everything manually is a bit of a faff but I'm still enjoying the learning curve so again if there's anyone out there wants a promo doing drop me a message and I will get back to you. I still have 4 outstanding requests and try to do them in order of requests received but this is always subject to my and your gig schedules.

For the time being, I'm all Rick's for tomorrow night.....and pondering whether one or two drummer cams will be called for to satisfy his diva demands to be seen more (ironically it sounds like he's hardly going to be on his own kit).

Anyway, I'd be interested in any feedback as to whether you think the multi angle thing and even shorter clips add or detract to the aim. I'm not sure that using the same number of clips and making them all shorter (which is what I've done) is for the best. Perhaps fewer slightly longer clips would have been better?

PS It's Lord Standing's Dad - he of the guitar amp/PA repair establishment in Colne that I keep plugging on guitar. http://www.philstandingamprepairs.co.uk/

@Nic - No problem. Sure we've had our disagreements, but I'm glad it's all water under the bridge. Only too happy to help NWBers where I can. I'm looking forward to our plans for world domination as and when gigs allow.

thought it was excellent - for a promo vid i thought all the clips were the right length
Is the sound straight from (one of) the camera(s)?? Good sound if it is

The sound is from the same camera I always use that you always comment on having a really good sound! And yes I used the one audio track exclusively and intercut film from another camera and simply muted the sound from the second sound source. You could mix the sound together as it's not just an on/off choice but I don't know whether there'd be any mileage in trying.

It's an old Panasonic mini DV camera that doesn't distort at high volumes and also has a zoom mic so you can focus the mic to record the sound from what you're filming, to cut out or dull the crowd noise around - it wasn't hugely successful at that on this occasion as I was miles away from the stage.

tis a bugger that .... i've got a little panasonic HDD thingy and even has a mic control setting - still clips a bit at gig volume tho even on the lowest setting! bane of my life that getting a good sound from a camera.

(well bane is perhaps too strong a word for it - it doesn't keep me up at night!)

p.s. i'll ask the same question on your next vid i've no doubt
haha

Go retro...back to tapes I tell thee.

Panasonic NV-DS27....or better still, find out what mic it uses and get a newer version that uses the same as this one only has a measly 800000 pixels.....eek....
