Expletives in songs today..

Desensitization...

Swearing in the single / chart material, but the word cannot be aired so the single version has a blank where the word is. Or you like a song you heard on the radio and then get the CD and find twattybastardcuntshitterymothercunts all over it !!!!

I wouldn't mind but the majority of songs work abso - fooking - lootley fine without and don't even need a swear word in it so detracts and devalues the song - in my opinion. Plus I can hardly play a CD now because some c**t says f**k on every other track.

Plus it's just desensitising the effect the word should have.

Yet I could play all my Frank Zappa and with all his sexual references (I think on 30 albums the word f**k appears 3 maybe 4 times?) and me kids and grandma would not have a clue what they mean....

Some people need to know the idea of swearing and where it should be used like in this sentence as it is not BIG and certainly aint clever. So stop being tw&ts..

haha ... i was listening to the radio the other day and quite by chance two songs were played next to each other, the first I had no clue what it was, the second was Oliver's Army by EC

I noticed on the first one (a modern one) the word "sex" was blanked out .... yes, "sex".
When Oliver's Army started I thought, hmm, this'll be interesting ....... and there it was in all it's uncensored glory .... "one less white nigger" ..........

For the life of me I can't understand the rationale behind that ......... !!

It's designed to cause contraversy. IMO if a song needs swearing in it to make people turn their heads it's a weak song. Unless there's some comedy value to it. W.A.S.P.s Fuck Like a Beast is hilarious. Comedy gold.

You was doing so well until you mentioned Zappa! haha. I think that that hits the nail on the head though, if you like the artist and the bad language is used to good effect then that is fine.

Besides it's sung in German first then translated so...

Yes RAGTM will not work with Sod Off and has been written right rom the start with the inention of using the term well :)

What if being desensitised can allow you to see beyond the mere sound of a swear word and help to generate an awareness of issues that bring on a greater good. Sometimes, its good to see beyond the swearing and see the courage and talent some individuals have. This is something that can really make you think about censorship and where it is applied.

Thanks for your input chaps, I think it highlights there's a difference in point between involuntary, and downright 'bad' use of expletives and poor placement of expletives for effect.. ?!!?

i was always a bit dubious about using swear words in songs but screaming "i've got seven grams of Cocaine don't you f**k with me" sounds much better than "i've got $700, so don't you mess with me"
