...no cheating - it's an age divide thing

This just took me right back to the days of sitting next to the radio on Sunday evenings trying to record the charts whilst parents were inconveniently interrupting your favourite tracks with enquiries as to whether you'd done your homework and got your school uniform ready. My recorder was murder for chewing tapes....always on rewind for some reason.

Cheap biros worked just as well. With practice you could save time by using the overhead 'football rattle' method.

up to a c90 used to be o.k but c120's used to end up destroyed in my portable tape player, still have loads of weebly tape recordings of early bands 1976 onwards etc so a timely reminder to convert em to mp3 before they're totally past it, never thought to use the football rattle method , good tip .....how far do they fly ?

the rewind wouldnt work on my recorder, i had a specials cassette i always listened to and had to spin it round the pencil, like a football rattle to get back to the first song,,,, funily enough i was just looking back through my old cassetes about an hour ago

@Squares

Could you not just turn it over and use FF or play?

Ha ha ha...I get it, I spent hours re-winding my 'slack' tapes and the angles on the pencil fitted perfectly into the tape slots...
My daughter says I'm the only person left on the planet who has a tape player in my car...she calls me a dinosaur and christened me a Punkasaurus.....

or that favourite tape that got chewed up and you painstakingly tried to resurrect it using the pencil unravel method. I had zappa 'sheikh yerbooti' and my fav song 'bobby brown' would morph into Asia heat of the moment played backwards part way through and then revert to bobby brown for the ending ..... .AAARRRGHHHH!!!
