hot tips?

apart from the usual excellent Boss fare, any hot tips for cool fx pedals, although my collection has levelled out a bit im a sucker for swapping fx pedals!

heres a couple of my acquirements that i like

MXR micro flanger is ace, not harsh and volume boosting like the Boss one and sounds superb, my fave!
Custom audio electronics Boost line driver, ace for solo boosts, up to 20db
Zoom 508 delay, ace high spec retro delay pedal, programmable, transparent and ace sound
Ibanez soundtank delay, only cost me 18 quid!, cool little delay great analogue style tone

any recommendations?, theres loads of lesser known boutique pedals that im sure are really cool, but as theyre quite expensive its hard to know without a purchase

Rob, I've tried a few of the better reviewed Behringer pedals recently. I have the Hi Band Flanger (like Jake E Lee used to use) which I LOVE, the phase 90 copy and the Ultra Shifter/Harmonist. Cost me less than £80 for all 3. Yes, they're in plastic cases, but if you're not heavy footed (I'm not) they are worth a dabble :o)

one thing ive finally stopped doing after all these years is selling them on/swapping them unless i know i will never ever need again in the future, just buy it on its own without getting rid of something to fund,as theres always a situation further down the line where you want that pedal you USED to have! :0)

brilliant the way paul gilbert uses pedals, id love to have one of his signature flanger pedals with the divebomb effect and theres a detox eq pedal he uses to clean up his sound when using an overdriven single channel amp, ace!

arent flangers ace!, i turn down the controls to get a softer chorus style effect on stil in love with you, and of course full on swoosh for The Rocker and Warriors!, bazzas lent me his evh one last nite, which im gonna use as well tomorrow nite, they really give solos a great variation occasionally :0)

proco rat
mxr micro amp - homebuild
eh big muff
eh small stone phaser
boss dd3
danelectro reel echo

zvex fuzz factory is well worth a look for some madness.

but the two things i really want to buy atm are a couple of dwarfcraft pedals. handmade in amerca.

the internet and shiva. check em out absolutely brilliant pedals but at over £100 each i dont think i'll ever see one

I used to have Dod Chorus and Analoge delay pedals back in the 80's and loved them.

Had Ibanez Distortion (model number unsure, just know it was yellow) and Ibanez Flanger

GAVE them away when got my first Boss ME6 (sob)

Happy with my Boss GT6 at the moment.

Best wishes

John

The main pedal I've kept for years but haven't used in a while is my Nobels ODR1 overdrive.

Not particularly noteworthy as an overdrive itself, but when the level is up and the gain is down it's a superb transparent boost, both clean and pushing a driven amp. I used to use it all the time with my Mesa Boogie because it didn't colour the amps natural sound at all.

those Ibanez pedals would have got ya a few quid John! there was some great pedal in the 80s and 90s, wish i still had my digitech whammy wah, the usual whammy fare but with a tuner , volume pedal and 4 presets available

i love my Boss GT8, ive had the gt6 too, both ace, and ive still only scratched the surface with what it can do

My board is overflowing again, time for a clean up (not selling on though, I too have had the yearning to buy back years later too many times!).

So now I have (on one board!)

Marshall Drivemaster
Marshall Shredmaster
DOD Compressor / sustainer
MXR Phase 90
Ibanez EQ
Morley Bad Horsie
Marshall Reverb
Tokai Chorus
Yamaha digital delay
Digitech digital delay
BBE Sonic Stomp
Boss Tuner

And thats it really, oh and amp fottswitch as well - currently available as a tap dancing guitarist........

i have a lot of time for behringer pedals. great alternative to "the big boys" and if you can past the plastic housing (which despite what some will tell you is pretty much as sturdy as the metal ones) they are just as good as the models they "are based on" wink wink

i have the behringer rv600, i forgot to mention and its brill

there is the danger of having too many sometimes, with Black Rose it only needs to be simple classic sounds, which gives more time for posing and jumping about hurrah!

i'm currently using a korg multi fx and a Blackstar HT dual. To be honest, the multi fx is slowly becoming a volume pedal for different songs. I started off programming it for different songs but found it a bit erratic live so now i'm more in the "clean, dirty and dirtier" school of thought!

with regards to cheap pedals - i bought a cheap and nasty Wah Wah off ebay last year (about £15) and it sounded superb!!! - only drawback was the footswitch was under the rocker and you had to press it manually - really usefull!!! Modified it to an on/off switch stomp box to go alongside (but then bought the aforementioned multi fx and did away with the pedal board)

Hi Guys -Current board (powered by a diago powerstation - excellent)

Boss TU2>TREX moeller overdrive>Marshall shredmaster>Wampler Pinnacle distortion limited>Marshall supervibe > Boss TR2 tremelo> Amp > Loop> TC Gsharp rack(maily for reverb)> boss voume pedal> loop return

Currently thinking of going back to the very excellent digitech RP1000 which has a 4 cable mehod hookup and an amp loop function so you can set a patch up with your amp in the chain or not and use the modelled amps. You can also use your favourite stomps as it has a dedicated stomp loop which you can assign to any patch

Keith, I tried the Pinnacle and the Plextortion in Atlanta. Fuck me they're useful pedals. Nearly made me want to go back to a single channel amp.

The Pinnacle is the first pedal I've ever tried that advertises itself as "brown sound" and actually delivers.

Not keen on 'endorsed' anything (erm, except that jazzy bloke Les Paul did do a nice one once...), HOWEVER tried a Vox Ice 9 Overdrive. It's the Satriani (read on felow non-shredders!) jobby, but will push something with valves nicely from slight blues, thro Angus, to Lizzy and a bit more...Very clean overdrive, sounds natural.

Plus, it has a 'more' switch too which gives 'more' clean boost, which adds some nice boost and sustain to valves already working. 'Tone' up high gets bright ACDC, and roll that back with 'Bass' high, and gain and 'more' switched might get you close to Gibbons with some pokey buckers...

...oh, and big Chicken Heads mean you can alter (and see) where you are and alter easily...

Try one - really.
