Some people just need to grow up...

...and I need to get this off my chest!

Didn't mention this in my review yesterday of the excellent Idle Promise at the Beaumont Arms as it wasn't really relevant and didn't spoil a crackin' night out but:

About ten minutes before the band took to the stage some dork from the crowd decided that walking on stage and pulling out guitar leads and amp mains leads would be a good way to impress his mates.

Fortunately I had a word with the band and no damage or embarrassment ensued.

Just really riled me! Aren't some people such complete .....

..... Knobheads???

That was the missing word wasn't it ;-)

No point messing with idiots like that as they will always have a "crew" with them. get them on their own and they wouldn't DARE go near the stage.

Sad but unavoidable :-(

Best wishes

John

That's one stage on from the "knobs" that insist on grabbing a mic when you have just finished setting up and showing how bad they can sing.

Never getting much in the way of an audience other than the bar staff and some tourists who have got themselves lost and possibly the odd stray animal I never get to see these things :-(

Ha ha yes John - that was one of the words I had in mind! It's not as though the guy was that young either - easily about 30. As you say though any approach would have probably resulted in some kind of 'situation'!

The strange thing about it was the person you identified to me was actually one of Alexs mates and although it was dark and my eyes are not the best it appeared to be him and also he was in the aresa where he was standing earlier in the evening.. I didnt mention it to Alex on the night but i definately will be getting him to have a strong word if this was actually the culprit. I can only think they thought it would be funny for us to start and nothing come out sound wise Just shows how stupid some people are if they thought we wouldnt notice that everything was unplugged and no sound was coming out of anything. Thanks again jules for dealing with the situation

If you leave your gear unguarded you're taking a risk....!!!!!!
Always keep an eye on the stage/your gear and if someone steps over the 'line' an aggressive ''Oi'' usually does the trick.
I don't mind people showing an interest but if someone oversteps the mark they are asking for trouble.
You wouldn't sit on a parked Harley and not expect to get a 'slap' from it's owner would you ???
Same applies to your bands gear....

@ Idle Promise. I am guessing that drink was involved ;-) It is odd that people think like that but then the things that some people get up to never fail to surprise me :-(

Good luck with the band, having read the review it sounds like you doing really well and carving yourselves a great great reputation.

Best wishes

John

No problem Nige, just gobsmacked that anyone would find it funny especially if there'd have been serious consequences. KNOBHEAD! There I've said it LOL!

What Gary said. We always have someone right near or on the playing area. If punters try to get up a quiet shake of the head or "can I help you mate" is enough deterrent.

Probably belongs to the same type of twerp who will occasionally shout "Play us something we know!" - to which I politely reply "Sorry, mate, we don't know any nursery rhymes!"

You're right - they do just need to grow up - or buzz off and watch X-factor instead - probably more their level.

Thanks John for your comments i can only think the same as you that the guy had had a few to many but like you say nothing surprises with some people
Gary we would normally have someone around the stage area but unfortunately we were having our halloween make up applied in the kitchen so good job Jules was around to help out

@LGIT - re Harley, on a Lakes ride an asian family took it as their right to take turns in sitting on one of the member's (very smart!) custom Softail. Strangely when he spotted them, very blue words rang round Bowness!.. ... ...I did laugh!

It's jealousy, pure and simple. You're doing something that they couldn't do and it makes them jealous. It also makes you a target for childish pranks...you're a threat and they have to steal your thunder with the limited intelligence available to them. I tend to play it down when it happens and defuse the situation be pretending not to be bothered. Don't give them the attention they crave (even though they deserve a kick in the bollocks).
