Scorpions Tribute

Thoughts?

I thought I would put this out there to get some reaction a i recently suggested starting up a Scorpions Tribute band as i only know of one who are a 4 piece called Lovedrive and I really felt I could do better,.no disrespect to anyone if you know them but you need a singer out front and not a singer/guitarist to pull off a decent Scorps tribute!

Ok I am babbling now but I was surprised when the first few people i told said "Scorpions aren't popular enough it wouldn't pull punters??????"

Thoughts please guys? Also would anyone be intersted as so far there's just a singer ME!!! Lol

I saw Lovedrive recently and was of the same opinion about a guitarist doing the Klaus Meine vocal BUT how wrong was I ?

This guy is as good on the vocals as Meine AND plays the axe just like Jabs, Roth & Schenker.... I'd say he's spent too much time in his bedroom as a kid he's that good! :o).....but it shows in the performance.

Yes I do believe there's a market for a Scorps tribute as a 5 piece, as long as the music is accurate and not just a band playing the songs in their own stylee (if ya get me)

i wouldnt get involved in a tribute unless it was acurate Graham, theres no point as i may as well just then get Wolfpack to do a few more Scorps covers

peple say i should do a Priest tribute cause they have seen me do the priest stuff with Wolfpack but to keep that up all night is hard work! Also i saw Judas Beast and thought I can't better these guys so what is the point? It was only after seeing Lovedrive i thought, without being big headed, I am better than this guy at singing Scorps so i see an opening IF i can get the musicians......BIG IF!!!!

I think it'd be tricky to do a 2 hour show that would work in pubs, but you may find a bit of success nationally. Double headers seem to be the way to go for many trib bands at the moment.
I saw Megadethuk recently, at a very prominent trib music venue in the northwest... 12 people in... :(

I think I may know someone who would do you a mighty fine Jabs...

Cheers man I have actually approaced 2 people i want in the band but they are not currently in covers or tribute bands but struggling originals bands, and i mean 'struggling' as they get few gigs and are skint! They are into the Scorps and are also young but my not wish to sell their souls to the dark side just yet LOL

James no intention at all of taking this to pubs mate......Nationwide ALL THE WAY .........Proper venues, no lugging PA and lights all in house PA, LIGHTS, ENGINEERS .....I am really good mates with Dressed To Kill and its come about after talking with them cause venues are looking for a GOOD Scorpions tribute

Just me thinking out loud here but why would anyone pay to go see a Megadeth tribute when the real thing are still out there touring? At least the Scorpions are now not touring, another reason I want to do this........

@nidge.... is it your opinion that tribs should only exist if the real band is no longer touring?

Nige, off topic a bit but did you get the 5-a-side football going? If not, fancy getting a regular musos football thing?

Rick.

@James - No though i dont see the point in a tribute when the original band is not a band that sells out large venues. To me it makes sense for a tribute if the band no longer exists or its a band you may struggle to get tickets for or they may be out of your price range! My opinion only and one i generally use when occasionaly going to see tributes

Megadeth are now only a band who play Academy venues and NOT arenas so it does not surprise me one bit that only 12 people go to see a Megadeth tribute, i would never go see a Megadeth tribute but thats coz they dont float my boat all that much!

The kind of tributes i go out to see, when i can, are:
KISS tributes mainly DRESSED TO KILL
HI ON MAIDEN coz real maiden bore me now with the new stuff
ANY LIZZY TRIB
judas beast coz right now they are as good as the real thing
Metalleeka funnily enough so dont start on me James LOL ;-)

Nige, second off topic question. Do you know any singers that would be interested in joining the 45's on a part time basis?. Nikki, our singer wants to cut down next year and basically, we don't,

I would love to see more Scorps tribute acts, they have been my favourite band for over thirty years.
Uli Jon Roth , Matthias jabs ,I love the lot . The only reason there aren't many tributes to The Scorpions is that not many singers can pull off the Klaus Meine vocals. If you can ,then what are you waiting for?
There's people wanting to come and see you
The Scorps music is fitting and popular enough for any venue.Possibly one of the most diverse rock bands ever and hardly get the appreciation that they deserve. Where's my soap box?
Anyway good luck and keep us updated. WE SHALL WAIT WITH BATED BREATH.

as a lifelong scorps fan i would be keen to see a really good scorps tribute band that can pull off the early scorps from the uli jon roth era as this for me is the real scorpions.

we"ll burn the sky
sails of charon
catch your train
etc etc

i have only seen lovedrive on youtube and they seem ok but nothing special although it is always better at the gig than watching video footage.

there is a tribute band called in trance who i think are american and they are the dogs bollocks although they do lean heavily on the newer ( jabs ) material.

@ wolfpack,

fantastic, they must have been buzzing their tits off after that.

all you need to do now is get things up and running book a gig at the Moses gate and get the scorps over to give you a hand before they retire.

good luck with it

Got to be worth a shot Nige, any world where the Smiths have a tribute band MUST be a world where the mighty Scorps get a proper trib.
