Xmas Present

All,

Friend at work looking for a Monitor for her Dad!
Needs to be stand-alone (not hooked into P.A to get line level input) - he is just starting out and jamming.
I have a monitor system myself but the signal needs to go through a pre-amp to boost the signal before getting the volume and dont know how to articulate that or indeed find an appropriate suggestion online (What am I looking for here!!?)
Its a Christmas gift so I dont believe they are looking to spend the earth £150 ish?

Can anyone advise?

Steve

I have two monitors for sale, one is powered and the other runs in line powered by the amp in the powered monitor. I bought them a few years ago and didn't use them much.PM me if ya interested ;-)

Hi Matey, I think your monitor is a Powered monitor if I remember (it has an amp in it) am I right? if so you could use a small mini mic mixer, about 30 quid from ebay. Plug the mic in the mini mixer, then the output into the input on your monitor.

Yeah cheers - i suppose my question should have been - can you get a monitor without the need for the pre-amp mixer? and if so what would it be called?

Try a Behringer B205D, Steve. I've bought a few recently and they're great. They're diddy so they sit on top of a mic stand but they're 150W so they can crank it out if you need the volume. They've also got three channels, one of them takes phono connections if you want to stick your ipod into it. The other ones are good for a mic and an instrument.

ask for a POWERED Monitor - has its own amp built in

I have a 12 inch Laney Powered monitor - had it for about 8 years and not missed a beat........
