Who would yours be?
That band that you love the music but you know a tribute would go down like an Italian cruise liner? Mine would be NightRanger. An American rock outfit from the 80s. How about you?
The Incredible String Band
Steel Panther in a working mens club
Goombay Dance Band
Dream Theater...not only cos no bugger would come to watch it, but there's fook all chance I could play it in the first place lol
Oh hello, the clown car arrived early today :oP
honk honk where's me washboard?
seriously though, would love to do a Marillion tribute
I'd love to do a Yellow Magic Orchestra covers band with three other mates, all playing synths. Following on from the epic debate about the classic rock stalwarts being "boring", what better band to book? There'd be no Alright Now, Hard To Handle or She Sells Sanctuary. Instead there'd be great pioneering electro songs like Technopolis, Rydeen and Behind The Mask (they wrote the original, clapton murdered it).Though I suspect we'd not even get through the opening lines of our opening tune, Pure Jam ("This must be the angriest piece of bread I've ever eaten"), before we turned a packed to the rafters pub into last orders on the Mary Celeste.
Ratt, Badlands (Jake E. Lee), Queensryche, Ian Dury. I'm just going through my ipod here! Level 42...
Level 42 would be ace, but I wouldn't envy your role in it it Steve... I'm assuming you'd be "the Mark King". The Chinese Way takes some playing!
I used to like the Seekers, they had enough hits to warrant a tribute, but i dont think there's ever been one, anyone interested?.ive got the Double Bass....T
I would love to do a Slipknot tribute (SlippedKnot maybe?) but I can't see it ever getting any bookings.....
Extreme. Would never come off though as I struggle to play Nuno's power chords, never mind his solos...
Grew up listening to the acoustic band " America" they were quite popular here but more in US so don't know how it would go down! Most of their albums began with the letter H, Hideaway, Holiday, Hearts etc.
@Anthem-Mark.. one day.. promise...
@Mick, I like your set list, some interesting, classic tracks you got! Cheers Donna Video killed the radio star.. how do you do that? Lol x
i have 2.. W.A.S.P I'm certain there must be one, but i dont half see myself as Blackie Lawless or Chas and Dave. always been a fan, I wanna be Dave though, he had all the tallent!!!
@ Mark Anthem.. tried a Marrilion tribute, never took off. we were called Uninvited guest, a spin off from a caberet band I was in!!
Black Lace... I'll get mi coat.
Duran duran andy.
+1 for Duran Duran Andy! FM - UK version It Bites Chic (or just Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers) Genesis - Sorry already doing that! Check out the Mama website here: http://www.mama-genesis.co.uk/

Lol x"Generally I'll set out with "what would band x" do with this, then get distracted by something shiny and go off down a completely different route. *dribbles on desk*
Go West!
Frost* for me Genesis.....Sorry already doing that! Check out the Mama website here: http://www.mama-genesis.co.uk/ I would be up for Marrillion trib if you need a singer ;) Best wishes John
Ozric Tentacles.:-)
So that's 3 singers for the Marillion Barber Shop Quartet. Any more takers?
The Sweet.... No one could do The Sweet 'cos no one could do those harmonies. You may get away with the odd selected track, but a full blown tribute? Don't think so.
There is a Sweet tribute act trying to get off the ground near me - they are calld EnSweet - magic name - agree with you Steve, not sure how they will pull it off. Unless of cource they have all bought small testicular vices......
# Posted by Dom Blair - The Accidental Gui... - 26/01/2012, 12:32 (GMT)I would love to do a Slipknot tribute (SlippedKnot maybe?) but I can't see it ever getting any bookings.....On the contrary - if you did it properly, you'd be snapped up everywhere. The two biggest hurdles are obviously getting 9 people including a dj/samples guy and the masks/boiler suits, and a Joey Jordison....just not gonna happen pmslHave I thought about it in the past...hell yeah
I would say WASP as well!!! (Chris Holmes era anyway!)
A Budgie tribute would be unusual.
Or even big Country.
I have seen an Ian Dury tribute called Clever Trevor, they were excellent.
There are a couple of Sweet tribute shows around. I've seen one and they were the Dog's B******S Don
+1 for the Ozrics.PIL anyone?
the pixies?
Where is my mind......
How about a Barry Manilow Tribute...
Barry Manilow doing Teenage Kicks????
johnny meerkat
Me and the piano player have often talked of doing a Flanders & Swann tribute.I'll get me wheelchair...
Imagine somebody dressing up as Elvis and doing an full gig of Presley gems! They would get laughed off stage! LOL The thought of it makes me giggle.... it could never happen. ;-)
Gong or XTC ;O)
Mr BigI'd love to get paid for playin Gilbert stuff, I throw the sly lick in comfortably numb now an again, but i would love to do a full set. Any Billy Sheens out there who fancy givin it a whirl? LolRegardsKev
Hanson...very underrated and talented guys.(providing of course you sign a waiver that insists Mmmbop never existed)I'm out the door already....
Marillion (looks like a few people here already could do it!), Supertramp, Rush, Porcupine Tree, ELPShaun
The Dooleys Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band...............................................Matron? Innuendo
Chesney Hawkes.........
Boney M.I could play the part of the sock down the trousers.Another for Duran.INXS.......
+18 for the mr big one.... twisted sister...
guy@ the sex pistols experience tried the PIL thing but their guitarist left & they couldnt find a replacement who could play the parts & pil reformed again & have a new album coming out soon so they sort of got disgruntled with the idea .
