Kingpin last night at the Red Lion in Longton

the gig was nearly cancelled due to the weather

We all went to watch Kingpin last night, Alyerpal was set up and ready to go, but the singist who had half the p.a. in his vehicle was stuck in traffic on the M62.he rolled up eventually to the relief of the rest of the band.

The place was very busy, we were very impressed with Kingpin they gave a very good tight performance,Alyerpal did some very good backing vocals without his drumming performance suffering which is not that easy, the punters really enjoyed them as we did, there was not much room left on the dance floor (even Carole was up dancing on several occasions).

The tracks that the punters enjoyed the most were Teenage kicks, Mr Brightside, sit down by James, Love shack, Video killed the radio star, all in all a very good nights entertainment, with everybody enjoying themselves (thats what its all about).

So if you hav`nt seen them go and see them you will enjoy it, a good set of friendly lads too, well done guys keep up the good work.

Cheers Tony

And a few of those song are in that blog from last week where landlords or who ever are moaning about everyone playing the same shit and it's all their fault that pubs are half empty.

As I said in that blog. Good songs played professionally by a good band will always get the audiences going. It matters not that other bands have also played them maybe the week before. I don't subscribe to the boring classic whatever category. Good is good, and an empty pub can't be blamed on a band.

Further to the above comments, I too was there to watch Kingpin (well, also to catch up with Tony and everyone)...

To put it in a nutshell:

Great set, well executed and polished performance!

Not much I can add to that since Tony seems to have covered the rest of it, but I'd certainly agree with Steve above that good songs played professionally will always work. Given that Kingpin added their own interpretation and included a few choice mash-ups this made a good set become a great set. If it's all about entertainment (which is EXACTLY what it's supposed to be) then Kingpin definitely hit the target.

Didn't get much of a chance to speak to any of the band during the dreaded 'packing-up' apart from a brief word... but as promised guys, I did say both me and Tony would get some words on here about your performance.

In summary, you pleased those of us who are musos (not an easy task at the best of times given we are such picky blighters), and joe public definitely enjoyed it too (heard quite a few good comments being passed around the pub)

Catch you on the flipside,

Paul

Thanks for the kind words Tony and Paul (and indeed Mr Blease indirectly!).

It was great to meet up with you again Tony and Carol and Chris, and to meet you Paul and the rest of the gang (do Off The Rails have the biggest band membership ever?!).

Considering it nearly didn't happen, we had a marvellous time. The Red Lion is a brilliant live music venue with regulars who are up for it Phil and Lynn who run it know their music.

Always nice to have some NWBers in the crowd and glad you enjoyed it.

Carol - your banner is mended.

Hare and Hounds, Whalley Road, Clayton-le-moors, Lancashire, BB5 5HE tonight if anyone wants to see for themselves.

:-)

Echo what al said, nice to meet you guys, paul, sorry we didnt get chance for a chat, pauls 3 and a half hours stuck on the 62 sort of put us on the back foot a bit, but its a great venue run by really nice people. Catch you all soon!

I saw them at the Griffin last week.

I didn't enjoy it in the slightest. I certainly didn't think that the backing vocals really lifted the tunes, that Paul is an excellent frontman or that the musicianship was very very good indeed.

The crowd definitely didn't get into it at all, and absolutely did not dance, sing along or give any indication of enjoying themselves immensely.

I don't know how they get gigs to be honest. I wouldn't recommend going to see them to anyone.

@Alyerpal

(do Off The Rails have the biggest band membership ever?!).

I think we should have been called Velcro because every so often some body decides to leave but then they want to come back. lol

@Tony and Alyerpal - Maybe other potential names could have been something like:

Boomerang
Echobox
Repetition
Many Returns

Of course it's possible that OTR are like a 'flexible friend' (errrr.. as in credit cards not as in an inflatable 'toy' before any smutty minded people get the wrong idea!)
