espences paid £40

THE REASON FOR MY BLOG the flying dutchman stockport is that we have artists on saturday and sunday nights and they get the going rate we did have artists on friday but you got to ralise that its getting tougher out there and even the artists i no are getting cancelled this year at there gigs, so we had to cancel the friday nights gigs because we could not afford the rates some artists wanted which ment they got £150 i made £100 and its us who have to pay for staff heating etc i have a good pub and want people to come in and enjoy the night but money is getting tight for people the good times have gone and any new artist new to the scene will find it hard to get a gig and on the ladder even seasoned artists are struggling as we are so £40 for the gig is not that good but thats how it is out there and dont forget they start off for the buzz of a live audience and the love of the game . i had small bands saying its a great idea and use it as a practice night and single artists who want to get on the ladder and they may get bookings threw doing this gig so lets have it right im not after a freebie and not asking seasoned artists so no you dont have to get out of bed, but times are bad and venues getting smaller so think of that great comments mixture of both

Call me DIVA would be up for it , but we are four piece , mind you our drummer uses a smallish electric kit. We are all originals though , is that an issue?

Hahahaaaa, you pay staff and heating and band pays for guitars and amp, cabs, bass, bass amp, cabs, drums, cymbals, stands, mics, mic stands, leads, monitors, lights, dimmer packs, lighting controllers, cross overs, tops, mids and subs, amps, sound desk, replacement bulbs, sticks, picks, XLR leads, multicore, vehicles, insurance, tax, fuel, cloths, rehearsal space, rehearsal time and despite all that may even buy a few of your pints. How about a compromise.. you pay bands £400 and they re imburse you £200 to cover your staff and heating.

Never read such a one sided bullshit proposal in my life, if you can't afford to pay for your entertainment just don't put it on or advertise just for young bands who are just starting off rather than insult all the hard working, mature, time served, experienced bands you appear to be courting.

Like my use of commas and full stops... helps with the read.

Nice One Neil, - what are cloths??? - typo I guess l.o.l. If you read his post and assign the proper meaning to the mis-spelt words it doesn't make sense!! I bet he's got scraped knuckles l.o.l.
I can't see any self-respecting Artiste taking him on.
W.T.F. are espences???

There's an ST Photography blog also running in tangent to this, worth a read also. I'm gonna shut up. N

Ha ha haaaaaaa, very very good, but mind you don't upset ST Photography!
At the end of the day though, if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys (not Monkees) and inevitably, the venue will suffer, punters will NOT put up with s***e (by and large) and any quality artistes accepting poor wages only undermine the position of their fellow artistes.
Incidentally, the M.U. is a very fine organisation, and in my humble opinion we should ALL be members, the benefits are manifold!

what this pub should do is pay somebody local £40 to put on an open mic using their gear. They'll get loads of people having a go ...the guy/girl getting paid can do 4 songs and thats a tenner a song.
There's loadsa students in the area that will be overjoyed to get £40 for this

@Flying Dutchman

It was suggested a few posts up to host an open mic night there - I would happily come and do that for one night a month for £40

Let me know if you are interested.

Also, please ignore the small core of 'people' on this site that find it easier to attack as opposed to support anyone.

Cheers

4 pubs a day are closing that means venues getting harder to get and less money about .
most bands like above comment on money,if they cant give it what do you do ,go back to playing in a shed to nobody, or take a £40 and play to a audience dont forget you play because you no you love diong it , you comment has you think your big time bands, but most of you play in different bands why to make money i dont think so .
pubs are closing because they cant afford to pay more than what they take, so either play or dont play and go back to your sheds, and let other bands or artists take the £40 who want a audience new to scene, and help the pub trade out as its going down fast and that means no venues, have a good laugh about this but you got to be on the other side and its hard. see you in your sheds.
