'Punk' in the George & Dragon !!!!!
We drove up the M6 Kendal bound yesterday thinking 'the weather's not too bad why are all these bands cancelling gigs'...Northbound there was a light dusting of snow but nothing major...so we plodded on. Got to the Kendal Junction and all of a sudden 'white'...the road disappeared...so we gingerly limped into Kendal which had suddenly turned into a Christmas card...the traffic was at a crawl and getting to the back-street George & Dragon was almost impossible...
If you know the G&D you know it's on the brow of a hill looking down a steep slope aiming straight into a river...and there wasn't much hope of reversing back up the cobbled road which now resembled the Cresta run...
So we sets up the gear, great room to play with an excellent in-house PA and Martin the engineer knows his stuff...early sound check left us with 3 hours to kill. Hot coffee to be found in MacDonald's (warm cup to hold) The snow kept falling and we were cold and wet..
Anyway, we played our set of 'Classic' Punk and scattered the majority of 'Classic Rock' dinosaurs back into their ''Punk's far too clever for us to understand '' Igloos...and as our expected travelling fans decided it was too dangerous to make the trip we had a fairly quiet night playing to a few 'locals' who loved everything we played and were up dancing all night...both of them !!!!
Getting out of Kendal was incredible, Punk on Ice, we needed a shovel (can't say spade anymore !!!) and a few big strong lads to help shove us in the right direction (why is it the Men always help while the Women just stand in the way ???)...slid out of Kendal and as soon as we hit the M6...clear...all the way home...landed a 4 am...shower ...bed,,,
Would we do it all again....Hell Yes...
Hope to return to the George & Dragon when the weather is warmer though...
