Anyone good with Radio Mics?

Slight problem with ours..

Got a Sennheiser EW545 radio mic http://www.gbaudio.co.uk/data/ew545.htm and receiver but it seems to be cutting out about 5 metres away from the stage. New batteries, antennas are fully extended, frequencies are paired on both.

Any ideas? Was thinking about changing the frequency over to see if that helps at next rehearsal..

Any help would be appreciated..

The Stans use a Sennheiser wireless mic system, you might want to message them.

you would think for a sound engineer that i would use wireless a lot but in truth i don't - there is an adage that the best radio mic is almost as good as a £12 xlr cable...however i do know a lot of engineers who do use them..we hang out at www.blue-room.org.uk on the sound forum. ask your question there and i guarantee someone is familiar with both your problem and your gear. just a thought tho - does it happen in every venue or just a specific location? yeah it makes a difference you would be amazed what can get in the way of a signal. good luck!

they do seem to like a clear line of site from the antenna to the mic as well.

Good luck

Does it have a variable squelch? I used to have a Sennheiser but can't remember if there was a squelch pot, it might be on the back. If the threshold is set too low (to avoid local interference) it'll cut down your range. Refer to your manual.

No there's no squelch and it happens absolutely everywhere including wherever we rehearse.. It's really weird.. :/

Thanks guys I'll have a look at that website
