FAO drummers and geeks

www.tune-bot.com

Looks like a really cool piece of kit. Especially if you're as enthusiastic about your sound as myself.

More importantly, does the Community approve if I purchase one, or will I be cast out as pretentious - an outsider who wastes money on useless pieces of equipment that make no discernable difference to the overall sound. I mean, drums should be tuned by ear and ear alone and if you can't tune by ear, then you're not a very good drummer right?

Haters gonna hate.

"or will I be cast out as pretentious"

Yes, it's just another gimmick. In my opinion of course. But that's obviously why your drums will sound in tune & mine won't :)

In fact I've been considering a pair of these...what dya reckon?

And I knew my Xmas rope lights would come in handy for something...

HOW MUCH??!??! Geez, i think i'll stick to just hittin' them harder if they sound bad!

As for the glowing drumsticks... i may or may not already have a set in the bottom of my stick bag!

LOL...he know's I'm just jokin'.

Actually I know Asa spends a lot of time on the tuning aspect of his drums, in fact if we lived closer I'd be having him round to help me tune my snare...it pisses me off that I still can't get the right sound out of it.

I've been looking at a Stewart Copeland Sig Snare, I'd absolutely love one but at £400 & for the type of gigs we play I'm still in the 'can't justify it' camp.

How do people get endorsed nowadays lol...

@Dean - Where do you live? You only have to ask if you need some advice pal. I'm always travelling around and I can definitely always make time for a fellow NWBer.

@Tubthumper - NWB and sensible debate? Ha ha ha ha. You almost had me!!

@ Dean - my post was directed at ST actually.

If I say that I think it's an overpriced gadget and that you could gain much the same functionality by using a guitar tuner and/or drum dial does that mean I'm casting aspersions on the personality of anyone who wants to buy one?

I tune by ear but I don't hold it against anyone who wants to use aids to achieve the same effect. You won't get any argument from me as to the importance of well tuned drums. That is something that you can pick out in the mix if it's done badly.

You know one of the things that this gadget has made me realise is that no longer can I just accuse drummers of being out of time or sounding on the wrong part of the thud to tish range, I can also accuse them of being out of tune ;-)

I might get one tbh although it won't replace personal preferences such as how you like the resonance head to match or not the batter head.

I tune my rack toms roughly so they sound like your singing 3 blind mice but have never tuned them to a particular note or key.

Every room is different so end up altering tuning to suite and always find my lowest rack tom is either bob on or sounds crap whatever I do to it.
