snap crackle pops

I have a mackie onyx 1640 firewire mixing desk , bought it second hand but in imaculate condition,
I am running sonar 7 PE software with a quad core processor with 4 gigs memory and windows vista.
I have a soundblaster audigy 2 to control midi this is in a slot on the motherboard with and outboard control unit that sends midi through a roland jv1080 and a alesis dm4 drum module.
I also have a lexicon omega audio interface which I have been using for recording up to 4 channels at once.

I had a few problems getting started with it, bought a pc just for the job, but there was conflicts with vista ( so the mackie techs told me), so I went back to xp op system, still the same problem...so I'm back on vista with updated drivers but still no better.
I can record up to 16 channels at once and the mix coming out live sounds fine, but once you try to play back all I get is crackles over the audio. I have tried all the different latency settings and all the usual bits that the techs told me.
I have tried removing lexicon to check for conflics but still the same story with the clicks.
does anybody have any experience with this type of set up, any help would be greatly appreciated and if time was spent with me I would pay for someones time to help solve this.
I wanted the set up mainly to offer a recording service to a few local artists who needed cheap demos doing so any help would be great..

cheers
James

When you record,

What does the wav file image look like? Is it all one level eg white noise or does it play back the music with crackle over the top?
