Accy gets its first boyband nightclub, featuring live music from boy bands from the 90's
A NEW nightclub which aims to attract high-class funsters has opened its doors in Accrington.
Level One, situated on the site of the former Arcade Bar on Warner Street, was launched last Thursday with the hope of transforming the town’s nightlife.
Owners Leon Kelly, who toured the UK for 13 years with his band NRG, and his business partner Martin Smith have introduced a smart dress code to try and entice a more upmarket clientele.
Anyone turning up in branded clothing will simply not be allowed in.
The owners are also hoping to revitalise Accrington town centre’s traditional Sunday nightlife.
A number of other bars have agreed to open late on Sundays for a six-week trial to see if together they can breathe life back into the town.
The club’s opening has already created 20 new jobs.
Leon, who has played alongside the likes of 911, East 17 and The Vengaboys, will be booking a 90s band once a month, with 911 making an appearance in May.
He said: "This is my first venture into the nightclub scene. Everyone seems to think I am mad to open a nightclub in the current financial climate with all the doom and gloom around, but I firmly believe the only way out of recession is to be positive."
He added that he and his business partners wanted to attract "brand new people’’ into the town as well as those who have kept away.
The club has the capacity for 250 people and has a state-of-the-art LED flashing dance floor and dance podiums.
Leon added: "We are having a strict dress code, which is smart dress only, strictly no branded clothing.
"The dress code will remain in force as long as the club is open and will not be relaxed."
