Or "Cyber jamming" if you will......

I've been involved with a number of musical projects over the years. Over more recent times I've derived an enormous amount of pleasure from interacting with people from all over the world in original songs and covers by way of the "cyber jam". Digital or analogue recording where people get together to put a tune together at a distance.

I know Scott from Steelfield also partakes in this. Anyone else doing it? It's great fun.

My mate went to see a band in Liverpool the other month who did this type of thing, the band had been together for 2 years but only met 3 days before the gig! The band were from Liverpool, Finland and Africa if I remember correct.

Does sound an interesting experiment, maybe something for NWB to branch out in when Mr NWB is sat twiddling his thumbs!

My mates band Edens Curse have just finished their first UK tour with Stratovarius and Firewind and although they have a major record deal and release 2 albums, they only rehearsed as a band a week before the tour started.

I myself have started working on a solo effort with a singer from Canada who blew my socks off when he sent me one of my tracks back with him warbling over it. I have another singer in Texas due to start recording in June.

Hopefully I can talk Mick into doing some more solos for me like the one he done for Track 1 (working title lol)

Combine that with the vocals and I almost sh!t my pants when I heard it.

It's excellent fun, and gives you a chance to work with musicians all over the place, and in loads of different styles. All you need is a recoridng interface and a means of getting files to the other collaborators.

email is fine for sending mp3's but you can use free sites like yousendit.com to send wav files up to 100Mb in size.

Yeah, lately I seem to be doing more collab's than my own stuff lol! It's pretty addictive because the outcome is a total surprise! I generally get sent the music and just get free play to feel the melody, write the lyrics and lay down the vox. I prefer to send it back dry for the mix/production. Loads of fun!!

I disagree with the above comment about sending music files re email. It can arrive at the other end with lag. Use big file transfer, it's free.

I think what Scott was saying that MP3 on email is a good way of "notepadding" stuff for people to work on as a framework. I'd do it all the time if wasn't a member of a site that is geared up for internal file transfer for the specific purpose of creating online music. :o)
