to have or not to have?
We are just branching out with a small lighting effect thingy. Now the rest of them want lots, and I don't. I am just a bit nervous of looking like we are trying to look like a rave??? Your thoughts would be appreciated.....
We only have a minimal amount of lighting and a smoke machine which our singer hates. When we played at the Pheasant Pluckers the other week, the DJ opperated the in-house lights for us. We felt like bloody Pink Floyd, it was great. But for pubs I think it's better to have some lighting rather than none if they can turn the lights down on the spot that you are playing.
we have a mixture of bands playin at the railway... some have no lights some have few lights and some have loads of lights. For me who has worked in a pub with bands for 5 years the ones that have no lights seem to have less atmosphere than the oneswith some or loads, having lights seem to add to the whole night, plus if there is lights then the lights inth epub can be off which also the customers and the bands seem to enjoy themselves more than with the house lights on.... it is each to there own but for me id deffo say lights
Speaking from a fans point of view I agree with the Railway Hotel, you gotta have lights guys, it just adds to the visual pleasure of watching and listening to live bands and I think it shows a bit of professionalism as well.
We use LED's on the drummer and a great green laser with smoke. Looks superb if you can get the room dark enough, especially when doing some moody Pink Floyd stuff. Also got some coloured clusters facing us all controlled by feet. They definitely create a good show all together and are often commented on. I say YES to lights. Fran - Spacebats
gotta have lights, railway is spot on ( do you get it spot on )
Thanks for all of your comments guys, I can see where you are coming from, and looking back at some fotos of gigs with no lights, they do look....well....dark! Just hope that the new lights turn up in time for tomorrow night then....
hey, we use two small stage spot lights, two stage lights that are music dependant on the amps to add a bit of movement, a full 4 par bar lighting rig back onto us to light us up. a smoke machine, two lasers and a couple of other little LED lights for interest. i know it sounds a lot but its all hidden away and when the pub knocks there lights off it just looks great. you cant beat the atmosphere provided by a dark pub with some spot lights. trust me if you get it right its half the battle won!
