The Metallica Tribute Band is offically ON yeah-heah \m/

Look out for a new band joining NWB very soon once we can come up with a name lol

Thanks to everyone on NWB who expressed an interest and helped build this Metallica tribute band in 9 days.

We met up yesterday and had an absolute blast and have decided that we are going to give it a go.

The guys were fantastic musicians and really cool and I personally felt very comfortable from the start.

The biggest surprise was getting an email from a guitarist on sat evening saying he would be interested as he had been looking for a Metallica band for ages. No info, I didn't even know his name, but I mentioned to him that we were practicing on the Sunday. Anyway, he gets the email on the sunday morning and texts me 2 hours before we're due to meet to say that he's gonna come along.
So the guy shows up and pretty much plays along to all 5 songs that the rest of us spent a week learning.

I'm still buzzing now but my throat is absolutely Donald ducked lol
Yeah, but some miracle, I managed to sing and play at the same time, and it didn't sound like a chimp being rogered by an elephant.....lol

So anyway, the official lineup is

Scott "James Hetfield" Beveridge : Rhythm and Vocals
Kevin "Cliff Burton Jason Newstead Rob Trujillo" Garry : Bass
Carl "Kirk Hammett" Jones : Lead Guitar
Gareth "Lars Ulrich" Webb : Drums

lol

Out of the 5 songs we agreed to learn, we pretty much nailed 4 of them and most of the 5th so for a "first practice" with 4 guys that have never met it was mind blowing.

but I think we ended up playing the 4 horsemen 4 or 5 times. What a great feeling it was belting that out. That and creeping death.
Got a couple more to learn for next week, as well as continuing to work on the first five.

Anyway, here's the big question.....if you were going to see a Metallica Tribute band, what would you want to hear?
Would it be the usual live stuff they play, or would you like a few album classics that they very rarely play live?

Hopefully we'll be ready to gig by the end of the year but we're not gonna rush it.

cheerz

Scott

will need to see. We don't wanna rush out there and gig too early.
Going to just work on a few songs at a time and get all of them right and accurate, but that will not be easy once we start moving onto the likes of puppets and one etc

Like I said, hopefully by the end of the year, but the thought of going out and playing these songs live is giving me goosebumps lol

Good luck with that!. It sounds like it'll be amazing...
Personally, I'd love to hear "Wherever I May Roam", "Seek & Destroy" (so you can scream to the audience on the chorus, "Come on you F******! Let me hear ya!"..."Welcome Home (Sanitarium)", "For Whom The Bell Tolls" and "One"..

..that should do for now. ;-)

I can't wait to do Sanitarium so that I can shout the immortal live lyrics "leave me the f**k alone" and "reach motherf***er"
lol

Ha Ha, my bog was like a shuttle launch pad on the sunday morning LOL

I had to pre-warn the guys that if their eyes started bleeding during practice it would be due to the after effects of them stuffed Jalepenos.....rock on \m/

ah, fade to black, yep that's one that I forgot about. Surprised to see Motorbeath suggested by Mr NWB, so that's two. All the others that have been mentioned so far we are either doing or planning to do soon, so it looks like we're heading the in the right direction.

I notice there is no call for anything from Load\Reload\Stangerrr????

To be honest, I'm not against doing the odd track from Load or Reload, but I draw the line at Stanger.

Would need to get Gareth to swap his snare for a bin lid lol

hee hee awesome

Was thinking, would anyone be interested in hearing some stuff from Death Magnetic?
I know Gareth wants to do "The Day that never comes", but are there any others?
I would love to give "all Nightmare long" a try......"but your luck runs outaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" :-)

Bloody hell just noticed you've got Gareth on drums, you wont find a better drummer, he's been itching to get back with a band since he "retired" from Riff Raff. F*ckin brilliant drummer.

tell me about it.
This is why I'm so excited.
Gareth is fantastic on the drums and a really nice guy.
Same for Kevin, awesome bass player, just hearing him play the start of For Whom the Bell Tolls and the little bass line in the middle of the four horsemen really made me smile.

Then you've got Carl, who didn't play much lead purely because of the time factor, but any man who has the balls to show up to a practice with 2-3hours notice and manage to play through virtually all of the songs deserves a hell of a lot of respect...which he got :-)

Plus the lead that he did play was enough to show us that the guy can play and like the other two, was a top bloke.

Rochdale Transport Club put on loads of tribute bands Scott, usually on a Fri Night or some Sat nights.

Milnrow Workingmens Club

Cricketer's in Shaw....sure you'd go down well there

Coolers in Shaw...again a good crowd

@Scott... they cut it short cos there is only so much wah-laden solo antics any audience can endure

I played at Rochdale Transport club last year with Without Reason. At the start there were only 3 people there as they forgot to advertise it. then a group of bikers and their partners came in and we had a fantastic time lol

@Steelfield...ha ha how very true

thx Shell

yeah you're right, nothing else matters will go down well.....but I still don't like it :-)

I'll have to sing it through gritted teeth lol

Unfortunately there's no getting away from that and sandman, so I think we'll leave them til last, so that we don't have to spend 6 months playing them lol

Avatar

# Posted by Shell - 23/06/2009, 19:43 (GMT)

I don't like Sandman either, it's another one that's overplayed these days but I think it'll be expected of you nonetheless. Stick em in at the end as you say lol

Avatar

# Posted by Scott - Metalleeka - 24/06/2009, 13:30 (GMT)

they certainly will be expected Shell, but hey ho, I've played far worse songs than them in the past so it's not too bad lol.

Oh and in case any of you were at the Metallica MEN gig in Feb this year, there's a bootleg of it on mininova. Really good quality.

# Posted by Scott - Metalleeka - 24/06/2009, 22:11 (GMT)

ha ha that's a cracker. We gonna take our time and wait until the right one fits. We're a long way off from gigging, so there's no rush to find a name yet.
But keep the suggestions coming. Some of the ones we've had so far are :
Metalleeka
Metal-Liquor
Metal-licker
Metallicarn't
The Four Horsemen
Sad But True
Creeping Death
The Harvesters of Sorrow
Blackened
Metallicarr
And of course Shell's Immortal'lica

I always liked their nickname in the 80's, Alcoholica

I prefer "observed" to nasty. ;o)

On the theme of the metro thing you could rename songs to things like:

Sculpting Death
For Whom the wax moulds
Ride the Sunbed
Master of Pumice
Welcome Home (Solarium)
Fade to Mauve
Enter Gok Wan

;o)
