The Count Of Tuscany

What do you think of Black Clouds and Silver Linings by Dream Theater?

I am absolutely gobsmacked by this album.

For me, 3 out of the six are absolutely amazing songs.
2 are very good and one is absolute mince.

But for me, the standout track is The Count Of Tuscany, coming in at a whopping 19 mins

I have listened to this song non stop and love the story, and love all the varying theories on the web about what it is actually about. The strongest theory yet that has been semi confirmed by JP himself is that he got taken to this castle and got introduced to the guy who Hannibal Lecter was supposedly based on and he thought he was going to be dinner LOL

Great story, great playing and the melody in the finale is just breathtaking.

Just my humble opinion, but I haven't been hit by a Dream Theater album like this since Metropolis pt 2.

Interested to know what you other DT fans think?

cheers

Scott

DT are one of those bands that I think are great, but can only stand about 5 mins or so at a time.

Our Drummer, Dave is mad on DT. Have listen to some of the cover stuff they've done (purple and madian, if not all ready) I love that stuff.

Cheers.

hairy muff :-)

so that's means you've never heard them finish a song lol
They don't do songs less than six minutes lol
(that's a sort of joke before someone comes on and proves that last statement factually incorrect lol)

ive not got it yet, but was really impressed by the new songs played at download, i dont like the slight change in James La Bries voice, especially live, he tried to do this kinda snarling voice thing when he doesnt need to, but yep got back into them a lot lately, this sound slike it could be the best album since train of thought

Love the album - grows on you with every listen. Grab a copy if you haven't already.
Looking forward to mixing the album without drums and having a go at it. Will be pathetic in comparison but you gotta aim high!
