Lots of "Yeah Baby".

Chorus about Shagging.

MASSIVE guitar solo in the middle.

Contrived Big-Smash ending or fade out.

*Simples*

fanny about with the guitar until I hear something I like.

Throw down a quick 5 minute drum guide then record a very rough guitar track so that I don't forget the idea.
Then work on the structure, do I want the standard intro-verse-bridge-chorus-solo-ending formula or, mix it all up a bit.
Leave it overnight, and if I still like it in the morning then record the drums, bass and guitars and fire it off to a singer to write the lyrics and do the vox...oh, and talk nicely to Mick to do the solos cos he's sh!t hot and mine are just sh!t lol

That's how my songs are written.

we're in the process of writing a load of original material at the mo. the best way we've found of doing stuff is if one person comes up with an initial idea, get it down on the voice recorder on your mobile, their absolutely brilliant for getting an idea down. the next step is bashing it out with the band and shaping it into summat worth listening to! my thinking behind it is play something that i'd want to listen to, then its always interesting for you when your playing it hopefully that'll relay to your audience and thats half the battle won! also you cant beat doing your research, listen to the songs you like and how their put together. there popular for a reason!

My formula is always the same:

1. Start off with a face-melting riff
2. Catchy chorus
3. A couple of solos from each guitarist
4. Cheesed off lyrics!

It always works haha

Face melting riffage is always the way forward. \m/\m/
