Instrument Insurance

Anybody got insurance for their gear when out and about?

If so, where did you get it from and how much are you paying?

It's just that I'm gonna have to insure my ESP for at least £2000, cos if anything happens to it, the only way I'll be able to get it replaced is by getting a whole new custom one made from ESP, even then, I don't think £2000 would cut it.

what do you guys reckon?

I have home contents insurance but it only covers individual items up to £1000, and it doesn't cover the guitar when it's out and about.

but the main reason is that this guitar is very rare, and if something did happen to it, it's not as if I can just nip out and get another one.

Every other bit of gear I have can be replaced so I'm not arsed about that...to a certain point obviously lol

Yeah know what you mean, like any insurance its the risk you take. Apart from it being robbed from my house (which is covered on HI) I cant see any other way Id need insurance as Im always with the kit when out gigging, someone would find it hard to rob from a venue without being seen and if I ever saw anyone touch it apart from the rest of my band they better make sure they're a fast runner.

I remember our bassist nearly having a heart attack cos his expensive bass went missing. someone claimed to have found it in the toilets, but we reckon he was pulling a fast one and hoping we wouldn't notice so that he could slip it out....the bass I mean lol.
I've seen incidents where p!ssheads get up on stage and knock over stuff or trip over things. you just never know. For £38.50 it's worth the peace of mind.

Another company is Newmoon Insurance. They are formed from old Allianz staff, and their rates are currently lower too. They offer musical instrument insurance and public liability, so might be worth looking at. Their web is http://www.newmooninsurance.com/musical/

Another thing worth looking at is whether these stand alone policies are cheaper than the excess on your house insurance. eg my insurance is £24 a year, but the excess on my house policy is £250, so it's definately worth it.
