Anyone else come in contact with them recently?

Just curious, has anyone else come into contact with PRS of late? We have been "interviewed" by them twice in the last month. Fortunately there were no issues, but with the advent of You Tube and MySpace, it gives the PRS valuable insight into who is playing what and where.
Another forum I use regularly has also reported an increase in their activity across the country.

Now then...If a venue is registerd with PRS and pays the annual subscription does that cover any band that performs there or are the band responsibe for PRS returns?..We played the Cockrock festival recently and had to submit a set list on the day..although the girl did say if you dont know all the details (composer etc) make it up..its only for the PRS..lol

Probably because the sales of their guitars have dropped due to over price ????, they are good, have 2 myself, bolt on neck and straight thru neck, but price is a bit over the top nowadays ....... just my thoughts ....

My understanding is that as long as the venue is registered with PRS and pays their dues, then all is OK.
We don't actually play much that is less than 30 yrs old anyway.
In all the time i have been giging I have never come in contact with them and all of a sudden twice in a month.
It does beg the question regarding You Tube and MySpace though. How does the PRS get the fees for stuff you put on the web?

I think if you as a band pay a subscription to PRS it covers you for all performances live or recorded and as a public broadcast organisation wouldnt you tube be registered with PRS?

Correctamundo Minim. It's just a bit strange that these guys seem to be about a lot more than they were.
Maybe that is just the Conspiracy Theorist inside me.
I would assume MySpace and You Tube do pay a broadcast subscription, but with bands putting Gig Lists up there it gives them easy information to check up up on both bands and venues.

If you ask me as a fan, PRS are a load of old balls. I mean, do the original artists see any money which the dosh-grabbing PRS take off venues, businesses, etc? Probably not. Radio stations pay PRS to play tracks, then if you're playing the radio in a business just to pass an hour or two away, you have to pay again. So what about having a song on your mobile as your ringtone? Does that mean we all have to pay PRS to have the 'right' to play it? PRS can kiss my arse! Money should go to the bands direct, not some poncy do-good organisation.

Some friends of mine had one chap call in at their Hotel in Blackpool while they had live music on. he had a long dark coat on and my mate Neil whow as performing said 'Eyup the Gas Mans here to read the meter' which is what he looked like aqs he was dressed in a long black mack type of think.

The beurocrats will always be there I suppose, just cover yer arse is the rule I reckon. Not a bands problem if the venue don't comply with the legislation. Buck well and truly passed..lol

A GUY FROM THE PRS CAME TO WATCH US AT THE HULTON ARMS LAST YEAR... (Ooops caps lock - at work).

Nice bloke. Very chatty about what they do. We gave him a copy of the set list after the first half and he was profoundly grateful. Nothing sinister about it. They just have to be seen to be actually doing their jobs. The venue pays the fees, not the bands.

Hi KC, exactly what happened to us both times.
Whilst the system is not perfect, it is probably the only way an artist stands any chance of getting their "dues".

yes we had a guy for the PRS came to chat with us at the boulevard, colin said hes had em there before, and was same as Ian Kerbs has said very friendly sat there before we started with the setlist and asked who each of the songs were by(he knew most of them), and explained how the covers PRS system works, it was years before that since id come across them but was all quite interesting to hear again

Oh how i would love to speak to someone from the PRS as i would mention to them how the lads in Marseille have never had a penny back in royalties in over 30 years! Marseilel songs ocasionally get specialist radio play so who gets the money for that? This is the other side of the coin as they claim to be collecting for the writers but it rareley filters back down, PRS and PPL are just out to get more revenue for no one other than themselves.
