Rob, you have similar taste to me! Especially in the Nuno/Vai/Jake department.

Jakes live solo on Suicide Solution is bloody great.

Pretty much anything by Brad Gillis and Jeff Watson.

Matthias Jabs. Full stop.

I'm not about the whole "who's better" thing. :oP

I'm just going to sit here and wait for some cork sniffer to post the inevitable "that's just mindless fretwanking" post. :o0

I support the 'almost anything by Joe Satriani (especially Devil's slide from the Live in San Francisco DVD)', but i also have a question for all you string twiddlers out there.....have you heard of Alvin Lee?
He was the guitarist in Ten Years After (you know, that amazing 10 minute, speed fueled guitar version of 'Comin' Home' from Woodstock), but he also released an album called 'Rocket Fuel' under the name Ten Years Later, and it's flipping amazing.
I first heard it in a car coming back from playing a gig at the Boardwalk in Manchester about 20 (oh god ist that long) years ago and it literally blew me away (I still smoked at the time!!!).
Got it on CD for about £3 off Amazon a couple of years ago and play it on a monthly babsis.
That guy can really play guitar.....sorry, rant over!

Alvin Lee was one of the first guitar players I actually saw video footage of doing the blues shred thing. I was JUST learning guitar and had no idea how people could play so fast. Alvin Lee, although not my cup of tea these days, showed me that you actually go ACROSS the strings, not just up and down them. lol.

As i've said before ..... not a great big guitarhead, but I like what i like ,,,,,,, and as far as widdling and shredding goes my favourite is Joe Satriani!! There. I've said it! ..... especially (in fact ... only .. its the only one i've got) Surfing with The Alien (???)
Willowtwiddler

p.s. never mind Alvin Lee .... what about Albert Lee!! treeeeeeeeeeeeeeemendous!!

I must confess I haven't got a single track from the original list in my house!!!
On the whole, I'm not too bothered about fretwank!
Widdle bores me rigid. Songs are what float my boat.

Our guitarist Steve does the best Satriani in the North West.

My favorite guitarist is Dave Edmunds. He can show most players the way home.

In terms of over widdleing It's got to be John Sykes, great guitarist but why go over the top and sploil it. His bue murder stuff rocks.

Has anyone ever listened to Francis Dunnery (ex It Bites) doing his stuff on guitar.
If you get a chance, listen to the solo on "You'll Never Go To Heaven" from The Big Lad In The Windmill album. I think he was about 22-23 years old doing that. Awesome.
