Some of the rigours of gigging...let's share please

Besides getting home at 3 a.m. blistered hands, broken drum sticks, split skins, damage to cymbals costing 3 figures, bad back problems from carrying 60Kg cases up rickety stair cases, what else is there that punters may not know exists in the 'Harsh' climate (oh wo is me..**wipes brow**) of the 'gig' world..

Getting changed in the bogs / car park ? Smelly microphones from the night before ? ...

Getting up at the crack of noon, deciding what T-shirt to wear, choosing which groupie to smash. It's all a drag to honest. I don't know why I do it.

Band Practice once a week : up to 5 hours (half hr there and half hour back, 3hr practice, half hour to setup at the start, half hour to pack up at the end)
Practicing the songs at home : 1-2 hours a night
Spending any money you have on the best gear possible for your budget
Having to work very closely with other guys on a very personal level. These guys become part of your everyday life and that can affect your family equilibrium.
Then the well publised travelling to and from gigs and getting home at an ungodly hour.

Listening to songs that you don't even like to learn the words!! Everwhere in my house are CD's that I would have never purchased if in my right mind, and playing ine track on repeat for hours.
As well as the 10 hours taken up for gigging at a distance after working all day.
Paying an extortionate amount for babysitters.
Dealing with band members personal lives....I don't really want to be invloved in!!
There are probably more....

The punters don't know that The Kerbcrawlers do not own CD's by any of the following:

The Killers
Kasabian
Arctic Monkeys
Kings Of Leon
Oasis (except for the single with the rather average version of Cum on feel the noize on it)

..... and that the situation is unlikely to ever change.

Oh yes, and that no-one plays 'Paradise by the dashboard light' except MeatLoaf.

what punters might not know.........

is that

ego massaging takes a lot of work and is very tiring, its very time consuming to talk about oneself all the time, and it can take all day to say hello to all the fans that love us, replying to the huge amount of fan mail, signing autographs, meet and greets, explaining how we get such a good sound and can play so brilliantly, theres just not enough hours in the day for all this.
