An honest review by Socialtornado
Last night, we had the pleasure of playing Coolers in Shaw. Last time we were booked there, we had to cancel due to illness, and it seemed like it had taken forever to come around again. With everyone talking about this venue on NWB, we had been chomping at the proverbial bit to play there.
I could draw many parallels with Marigolds in Darwen as they are very similar, albeit Coolers is smaller. It's the venue that everyone heads to when the pubs shut. This means that a la Marigolds, there's generally only a few people in for the first set and by the second set, the place is packed. Last night was no different.
We started off about 11.30 playing our first set to a few regulars and family and friends. As soon as we started, people started coming up from downstairs. The reaction was good and people seemed to enjoy it. Foot tappers at the bar, blokes chest bumping, girlies bouncing away on the dancefloor to the indie anthems. It was a good first set.
What followed in the second set was beyond all our expectations. Just before we started, a birthday party wandered in and the place went mental (in a good way). We launched into the second set and everyone crammed onto the dancefloor. Some even joined us on the huge stage! There must have been 100+ people in. Not too shabby at all. There was sexy dancing, girls flashing their bits at the band, girls grinding away on stage with other girls and even with the band. It is at this point that I feel like I'm falling into the trap of over egging the review (like a few others I could mention). I promise you all, this is an entirely factual account of events. We finished with the newly revived Down In The Tubestation and our regualr encore Sex On Fire which both went down really well.
Afterwards, there were plenty of compliments flying around from the punters, which is always nice.
So in summary, a top, top night. Had a good chat with Nicole and we're hoping to get back on at Coolers soon. We didn't get much chance to chat with Lee unfortunately. I think he had his eye on some trouble brewing outside and missed the second set as a result (which was a shame); although he did find time to help get the gear downstairs later on, which was above and beyond the call of duty!
Just a little footnote, I lost my jacket at the end of the night. No great shakes, but if you're playing at Coolers, keep your possessions close by. And if anyone finds a green jacket with orange piping with a set of iPhone earphones in the left pocket - it's MINE!
Thanks for listening
