What are you using?

It's time to replace the SM57s (one broken, one mislaid) so I thought I'd ask. Has anyone had good experiences with cheaper mics? We're trying an old Sennheiser vocal mic in the interim but it's WAY too dark sounding.....

Thoughts?????

we use these - www.dv247.com/.../behringer-xm8500-ultravoice-dynamic-vocal-microphone--15822

we think they sound good, and cheap enough to replace they get damaged.

i like my sm57 it sounds niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice, use it at every gig, even though my Marshall jmp-1 has their legendary speaker emulation love the pounding sound of a miked cab :-)

57 is the best, but there are cheaper immitations out there nowadays like Behringer.
Don't know about 57's, but a while ago I saw a 58 copy that was VERY cheap that looked and sounded just like a Shure.

There's 2 Shure Beta 58's in Cash Generator in Bolton for £60.00 each. Bargain.
I have an Audio Technica PRO282 mic, specifically bought for instrument use a couple of years ago. Cost me £50.00. They're not expensive to buy, and sounded great then. If you're close to Bolton/Radcliffe then you're welcome to try it out. If you want to buy it, £25.00.

The senheiser Evo's are great for vocals, I find them much better than a 58 in fact
But they are a bit too open for miking a cab. a 57 is still the perfect mic for it, they are pretty much Omni Directional which is ideal

I also think the Sennheiser E835 is better than the Shure SM58.
