for me in no particular order these would be awesome for me............

Bon Jovi

Metallica (yep got that box ticked, keeping my eye out for a decent Kirk Hammett signature ESP over next year sometime :-).....)

Thin Lizzy (this would be another one that would be really up there for me, absolutely love playing Lizzy)

Whitesnake

Van Halen

Ozzy Osbourne

Queen (im a big fan and Brian May has always been a big influence)

Free/Bad Company

Def Leppard

any of those would really be awesome and id love every minute, and i love playing Metallica songs, what you hope for you may just get at some time!!

i dont think i would like to do a tribute band, after a year or so, when you have gigged the whole rep then you would just get bored and leave anyway - the novelty would soon wear off !

System of a Down. Rage Against The Machine. One Minute Silence. AC/DC. Red Hot Chili Peppers. I would be on Bass, would also be on vocals in the RATM and One Minute Silence ones. Not good on vocals yet but can dream eh? Some of them are a bit obscure for the tribute circuit but would be good.

I personally would hate to play in a Trib band cos you gotta copy everything exact to the record ....i dont have patience or inclination to do that .....humbag i am!!!
I would love to do my own songs interspersded(is that a real word ..or have i just spelt it wrong??) with some good covers ..........at a push to join in a Quo trib ...just to have fun!!!

Tributes are not really my thing but the idea of getting completely rat arsed, trying to sing not necessarily in tune, AND it being acceptable and lucrative seems easy and fun (especially because I always drive the van).

Yep, it has to be The Pogues!

errrrrmmmmm....let me think ???????????

ahh yes....got it! BLACK SABBATH :)

I reckon I prefer tributes to covers bands BECAUSE you have to play the stuff right (G-IT-22)....Its feels so much better to me trying to 'immitate' Geezer than it does playing one of the 40 or so different versions of 'wishing well' (for example) that are often found in covers bands.

Awesome, great thread Rob.
I originally tried to get a Maiden trib up and running on here a year or so back but got zero response. Would love to be able to play stuff like Rhyme of the ancient mariner, and Number of The Beast etc etc

Also, now this is entering the realms of fantasy : A Dream Theater trib band.
Ha Ha, you would end up playing to about 3 people and have to resort to playing all their "easy" songs, give you a set of about 4 songs lol.

There are absolutely tons of Police tributes out there.. Probably the best one is Police Force though.. They always play Liverpool Mathew street festival and are pretty damn good.

Some of the bands I'd REALLY enjoy being in a cover band of wouldn't pull a crowd. I really used to enjoy covering Dokken, Cinderella and Nightranger songs back when people knew who they were.
Also I'd like to do Extreme covers, but apart from a small selection of tracks I SO don't have Nuno chops. lol

# Posted by ST Photography - VIVA LA COMMU... - 07/10/2009, 12:00 (GMT)

Inspired by some of the previous entries - Jeff Waynes War Of The Worlds would be awesome. Dream Theater would also be very cool, under-appreciated and difficult! What about a James tribute band? Very popular around Manchester.

# Posted by Essentially Clapton - 07/10/2009, 12:19 (GMT)

er .... not really arsed about tribute bands!!
hehe

seriously though we're trying to achieve the "feel" of the Clapton stuff, so, whilst playing his popular stuff note for note (ish), his more obscure tracks (meaning obcure to the general unwashed) we can play about with a bit - like a swampy version of After Midnight

Andy Fairweather-Willow

I'd love to be in a Police tribute but can't sing like Sting, play guitar like Summers or drum like Copeland ... bit stuck there then!!

Do you reckon there's such a thing as a tribute band tribute band?? We could get a Twin Lizzy tribute together .... TwinsLizzy - Arnie on bass and Danny de Vito on drums!!
Can you tell I'm bored at work!!
