an honest review
Well I gotta be honest, I was a bit dubious about doing this gig after the problems celtic cross had with the landlord, AND add the fact that burnley lost to blackburn in the footie so all in all a bit of a tense gig or so I thought.
I arrived at 6pm to set up and there was maybe 10 young lads in who were by this time quite merry and singing burnley chants. I got all my gear in and set up , There is a small stage area across the pub which is big enough for a 3 or 4 piece band at a squeeze, but hey I'm solo so there was loads of room for me...and it's quite an easy load if you manage to get parked right nest to the pub on the front..then Paul (landlord) came over and introduced himself and I gotta say , what a nice bloke, very friendly . He explained that at 6.45 the pub would fill up so could I please start at 7 and go straight through to 8.30..
He was right , at 7 the pub was actually quite busy in fact is was rammed.. I started and with the first song I had a few up dancing and they never sat down all night, obviously some songs had more people up than others but hey you can't please evryone ALL of the time, but I never had less than 10 people up so job done as far as I'm concerned. At 8.30 I did my last song and did a couple of encores and that was me done. By this time thepub had started emptying out as Paul said it would so there was maybe only 3/4 of the punters left.
The young lad came over from behind the bar and said how much they had enjoyed it and told me that I had done really well as the punters normally go at a bout 8 oclock but it was great that we'd managed to keep them in.
So all in all a good gig and a friendly pleasant atmosphere. I don't condone what happened to other bands ,and I can't imagine why it happened.... all I can do is tell you my experience of a venue, I for one will be booking more gigs here and will look forward to them , its a nice place to gig .
please don't see this review as a blow my own trumpet, I was no better or worse than 99% of the acts out there , this is a VENUE review, it just so happened that last night in burnley I FECKIN ROCKED !!!!! and they rocked with me..pmsl
