Whats your inside leg measurement?

Where are all these questions coming from?

Who's your favourite band? What's your favourite venue? How much do you charge? What songs do you practice and not play at gigs? Who makes the tea? What's your middle name? What colour pants are you wearing? What is the answer to the meaning of life? Why do Smarties have the answer? How many groupies have you nobbled?

Give it a rest, I feel like I'm on www.northwestquestionnaires.co.uk!!

at least on this site you get the choice whether to open a blog and read it or not .... i'm sick of people i hardly know telling me they're currently "eating curry for tea" or other tremendously boring snippets of their tremendously boring lives via FaceBook. Makes even the Gordon/Trig duologues tagged onto the end of each and every blog mildly entertaining! lol

I think CRP should be abolished in favour of a "length of membership" type tag. The number of CRP whores on here is another thing that grinds my gears.

Facebook can help promote your band if you use it right. You can post videos and audio files with ease and you also can get loads of your friends info very quickly.

I agree with what CRP tried to do and in general if you look at the top page, virtually everyone on that page makes a frequent and valuable contribution to this site. Even if there was such a thing as CRP whores, which I don't believe there is, it would take 1000's of posts to get to where a majority of us are. But even if they did succeed, how popular would they be on here?

As you see, people are already starting to take the piss out of OTR so I suspect he may calm down on his random blog questions.

Apart from when some tit who is supposed to be your friend starts accusing you of "spamming" when you send an invite to your gig out and posts his nasty comments on your event wall.

I'm giving him til the end of the day to respond before going round there to kneecap him, or, as will probably be the case, I'll just remove him as a friend. Sorry I'm rambling now lol

All for the community of NWB me. No harm in the recent posts s'pose

I think the CRP means you need to be active - or get binned
'Members who havent scored any points in a 3 month period will be REMOVED from the site.'

Fair do's but some are just nipping on every 2 weeks and saying who they are and what gigs they play to keep the account alive... YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE...NUDGE NUDGE... (hint - in fact I may as well name them as they don't read or activley contribute...)

oh you hit the nail on the head there DB

They make absolutely no attempt to contribute, they just think that jumping on here once every couple of months to advertise their gigs or grub for gigs is going to suddenly make us all go down and see them or offer them gigs.

grrrrrrrrrrrrr

You offer support and advice. You enjoy the craic every now and again when appropriate. A model blogger if ever there was one. More people should follow your example.

Good one ST!
I was thinking things were getting a bit siily and over the top of late! especially since "Off the Rails" started there mad blog assault on us!
On the other hand it does sometimes get people fingerboard gabbing and raise some interesting views and issues!
If Paul was to get rid of that silly CRP thingy it would stop a lot of the shite stuff I think?
not that I'm against anything!!!!
It's all good fun innit, unless your easily irritated?

I've absolutely no idea but i DO love this site and i DO like that bit of motorway ......... and I DID post once just for the points but got a severe twatting from Mr & Mrs Bands (in a nice way of course)!!

:0)

but ... back to the point in hand ... the saving grace is that one can opt not to open the more obvious non-music related blogs if that's one's preference.

Those are relevant. Everyone likes amusing annecdotes, but I own an Xbox360 so no more PS3 blogs ok? It can't all be gig promo and reviews.

Willow - point taken that rubbish blogs can be avoided, but with limited entries on the front page, the decent blogs get consigned to history before everyone has seen them/contributed.

Two things. Firstly, you haven't offended anyone...yet. I suspect you are working up to it. Secondly, I never singled out Off The Rails for criticism, so may I politely suggest that searching NWB for my blogs and listing them as irrelevant is an inappropriate response.

I was merely expressing opinion. It seems to be shared by a few people.

Im amazed by peoples fascination with the CRP's, as if its a competition of somekind. Its not.

It's merely to represent how active that person is within the site ;-)

You can view any users last logged in date, so you can see when they last visited the site.

For me, The CRP has been a good way to get people contributing. Yeah, we might get the occasional blog jack, or uneeded comment, but it all pans out.. spammers soon get bored, and the natural cream always rises to the top.

I think the current CRP chart is reflective of the users who contribute/involve themselves most to the site.

Avatar

# Posted by mr.nwb - 29/10/2009, 23:23 (GMT)

Also... As the blog owner, you are free to delete peoples comments if you deem them to be off topic, or blog jacking.

Maybe a bit of "own blog administration" is needed. Whereby the blog owner deletes any offending comments.

Imagine how good this site would be if it was 62% more relevant?

# Posted by Scott - Metalleeka - 30/10/2009, 09:31 (GMT)

yep boring as hell IMHO
Look what happened after the LQ post. We are now swamped with these bloody reviews, and for a while, it was just the same mundane stuff and was very boring.
Once the fun stuff started appearing again then it became much better.
The whole point about having a site like this is to establish a community, but if you strangle the community and force them to just do certain things, slowly but surely it will diminish.

Imagine going to a club (I'll use Darts as an example), and everyone is talking nothing but darts. Then someone says, Hi everyone, I went out to see this great movie last night. He then gets marched out, for not talking darts.
Is that what you're getting at ST?

As long as the rules are roughly followed and a certain degree of fun and personality is added, then I really don't see what the problem is.

amended blog i thought that this is what this site was all about discussing bands, music, gigs equipment, with reference to crp the questions i raised was genuine, the band couldnt agree on what a 5 piece band should charge for new years eve or what the average gig charge should be, so i posted the blog to seek advice from some of you guys in the know, and most of the other blogs i posted i thought i was trying to participate on the site instead of sitting on my backside with nothing to say, its a bit more interesting than having nothing to say, what i dont think this site should be about is slagging people and bands off i totally agree with mr nwbs comments and the 45s

# Posted by ST Photography - VIVA LA COMMU... - 30/10/2009, 09:41 (GMT)

To use Scotts example. Imagine going to pub to play darts and someone came in and said, "Hey guys, whats your favourite junction on the M6?" Would you invite him to play or would you ignore him? I suspect you would ignore him.

I'm not advocating complete sterilisation of the site, but there has to be a line drawn to keep it relevant. I keep using the word relevant a lot.

If I came to this site for the very first time and didn't know the personalities and history, then I'm not sure I would give it the credit it truly deserves as a fantastic resource.

Everyone who knows me, knows I have a sense of fun. You've all seen my blogs and responses. Whatever and Mr NWB will vouch for me (hopefully!) I only want to see NWB get the credit it deserves and grow into something truly great.

Exactly, you would just IGNORE him.
You wouldn't order him to never do it again, or take the p1ss (well maybe you would take the p1ss), or march him out.

That's what Willow was trying to say. If you don't like the blog, don't open it.

my turn to use your example ST :-)

"Imagine going to pub to play darts and someone came in and said, "Hey guys, whats your favourite junction on the M6?" Would you invite him to play or would you ignore him? I suspect you would ignore him."

That is exactly what happens in clubs. People socially interact and it is not all about the specific club subject.
That's the point I was trying to make, it would just be extremely lifeless and boring...like a chess club pmsl (sorry if there are any chess club members on here)

Scott, I think we'll just have to agree to disagree. And that's cool. It's all about opinions and discussion. We have differing views and that's healthy.

And if anyone wants to talk to me about motorway junctions, do it at the bar (play pen) and not when I'm playing darts (blog).

@ social tornado-what did you conclude from the exercise? (think we may be at a pivotal moment here on nwb-the way the site goes may be determined through this blog?-no pressure there, then, st? :-) )

Avatar

# Posted by ST Photography - VIVA LA COMMU... - 31/10/2009, 13:39 (GMT)

@Viking...thanks for the pressure there fella! I can take it.

In my opinion, the cull of irrelevant random chatter has allowed the debate to continue. I think a few people may have "switched off" when the inevitable blogjacking and CRP scoring started.

That said, I'm honest enough that I can see both sides of the discussion. The blog may now appear a little dry for some.

I can only reiterate my initial opinion. Irrelevant and random posts (whilst amusing and entirely welcome in the blogs) belong in the play pen. Some crossing of the line should be tolerated to keep the blogs fresh, funny and light hearted. But obvious blog jacks and CRP scoring should be penalised (preferably by death or something worse). Only Mr NWB and the blog creator can police this.

Further to that, I believe that topics should be relevant to the North West and bands (for obvious reasons) and should be related to music in general.

Some of you may think that that scope is too narrow. To those people, I say facebook is your friend. It is my opinion (and respected marketing knowledge/fact) that unless you keep your media on topic, relevant and interesting you will lose visitors to your site. FACT.

I want all the best people to come to NWB. I love this site. I want it to grow. I want advice from other people. I want to help new bands. I want it to be a success for Mr NWB who has put his heart and soul into it.

There endeth the sermon. Feel free to disagree. It is only an opinion.

@ social tornado-heh heh!! you're welcome, bro!! :-)
agreed-maybe it's time to suggest a different format? the play pen idea obviously isn't working, and, as you correctly point out, "blogs" (although, in my opinion, they aren't "blogs" per se-they're "posts"?) disappear under a plethora of, sometimes, topics that are not totally music based, or have but the most tenuous link.
it would, of course, depend on whether mr nwb believes it to be "do-able", but perhaps, it's time to have "personal blogs", on profiles, that can be used for just about anything the profile owner wishes, accessible only by that owner's friends, and a new "community info" page, where gig shouts, reviews, muso talk and such can be discussed publicly, with the main thrust of the matter being music/gig/venue centred? venues and bands could , then, use that facility for communicating info and other relevent matters without the subject vanishing? with your agreement, i propose THIS particular blog -("shout"?) should be "pinned", so as to keep it uppermost in people's sight and, maybe, elicit suggestions as to the way forward? as i say, it all depends on mr nwb-it's his project and his time/expertise that would be relied on-whatever the ins and outs-i believe it's time for this particular snake to shed its' skin in order to make room for a bigger one?

# Posted by ST Photography - VIVA LA COMMU... - 31/10/2009, 18:30 (GMT)

@ Viking - I don't think the site needs to change. The play pen takes some of the traffic, but not all - especially when blogjacking of legitimate blogs occurs or the "wacky" members decide to start posting random nonsense. I think the users need to take responsibility.

Ultimately it will be those users that dilute the quality that will be sitting here in 12 months time wondering why no-one uses the site any more.

Again, I am not advocating complete sterilisation, but moderation.

Avatar

# Posted by viking - 01/11/2009, 13:43 (GMT)

@ social tornado-no-the site doesn't need a radical change, but, perhaps, a modicum of restructuring to encompass all aspects of the social side of the music scene, without which it would be soulless? the playpen idea, clearly, is not capturing the imagination of members-therefore an alternative should be found? what that should comprise of could be a matter for discussion, with, of course, mr nwb being the sole and final arbiter. at present there seems to be a minority of us postulating what is or is not good for the site-i'm not at all comfortable with that.
whether the site is on a highway to oblivion or not is a debatable issue. as for "let them use facebook"-if it was the last site on the internet there is absolutely no chance whatsoever of my joining up on that particular bit of nonsense!! :-)

*******************************************************************

i agree Viking im a really big fan and glad to be on this site, but ALL opinions and posts as long as music/band related are valid, and more often than not if the topic steers off music it soon gets back on point again

its the nature of peoples conversation that the topic will shift now and again, but its healthy and natural for people to talk about things like whats your favourite guitar solos/most underrated singer etc etc, i have done many of these blogs and enjoyed them and like to hear peoples opinions and find out more about them and build rapport along the way, again i really like being part of this site and continue to make some great friends along the way, and its a shame when it gets serious with certain bands pushing their own ego(which is a long way away from being proud of your own work and promoting what you do,one of the driving factors and purposes of this site)
