To go wireless or not

All,

Would appreciate some advice.
I'm considering going wireless.
I have my trusty SM58 right now but get envious when the lads take their guitars on tour around the dancefloor / room....
I've heard good and bad things so, any advice - pro's / con's would be welcome.

Cheers
Steve.

Our singer has a Sennheiser (I think) and it's great. I follow him around pubs using my Samson.

The Sennheiser's are good but twice the price!

Some years ago I paid about £140 for a wireless mic. It was crap, kept 'popping' as I moved (and grooved).

Exchanged it 3 years ago for a Shure SM 58 wireless and it's superb.Cost £300 but I got £120 px against the other which was over 18 months old by then.

A pair of Duracell batteries does me 6-8 gigs.

I use the Shure PG58 - never had so much as a pop or fart or a bit of dropped signal out of it!

The PG58 is the slightly cheaper(£175) version of the SM58..........

Sennheisers are superb. Got the G2 series and not let me down yet. Works a treat with effects and parametric eq and compressor.

Can really recommend them

Best wishes

So .... as long as I get a decent one, I shouldnt be concerned about sound quality of a wireless as opposed a cabled mic ....?

Had all types over the years, but SENNHEISER definately the best I`ve had. Crystal clear, no interference problems etc. Not the cheapest but best value for money.

yeah........... the conclusion is : YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR........

Don't buy an Epi Les Paul and expect it to sound/play like a Gibbo.....

They is cheap for a reason!

I bought an AKG HT80/SR80 wireless secondhand on EBAY for £90.00. I saw one advertised on an American website for $700.00. The sound quality is superb, no drop out, I can walk for miles. I had a problem with a connector when I first got it, spent £60.00 on a service etc, uses 2 X AA batteries, usually last abot 9 hours (3 gigs approx.) It gives you so much freedom to go into the crowd with a wireless.
If I got a new one, it would have to be Sennheiser, but not the Freeport cheap stuff. They're all quite pricey now as they come from Europe and with the exchange rates you'll probably pay £50.00 - £60.00 more than they were 3 months ago.Might be worth hanging on for a better rate.

Make sure you go for a UHF mic if you get one (avoids Abdul's taxi coming through on VHF). There's loads of Sennheiser, Shure and AKG wireless mics on ebay at the moment.
Best avoid the "new" ones from China though, they're likely to be copies. If a "new" Sennheiser evolution is going for £130 -£150 it's probably a fake.

I use a NADY wireless mic occasionaly...They are ok but can cause feedback problems that you don't get with a wired mic on the same mixer settings.
