Stage Box and phantom power?

Any advice guys?

Hi guys/gals

As Gareth uses a condenser overhead mic , we are using phantom power on the desk.
After reading the manual about 50 times, it only really gives a couple of lines about the phantom power, most of them are warnings about using unbalanced connectors and the use of stage boxes with phantom power.

It's basically saying you can't use phantom power and a stage box.

Can anyone explain in more detail exactly what phantom power does and why we wouldn't be able to use the stage box with it switched on?

thanks guys n gals

We use phantom power and a stage box no problem, about 20m long.

The Phantom power provides a 48v feed out to the condenser mics from the desk (they need power to work) The amount of power is quite small, so with very large snakes and multiple connections you may well get a loss in the signal from the desk. which would mean you dont get enough power down the wire to power the mic correctly.
As I say we use them on a 2m peavy snake and I have had no problems.

You need the lines to be balanced as you need the correct wiring to carry the 48v signal.
All the other mics pluged into the desk should have balanced connectorsaas well, even on dynamic mics, to avoid possible damage of the mics from the 48v signal.
Hope this ramble makes sence
