Ashdown Speaker replacements

best or good alternatives?

So...as one of my backup rigs I have a mag300 combo with 2 x 10" blueline speakers. 1 of the speakers has given up the ghost as the cone has detached from the driver and it sounds like a fart in a bottle! I have tried to scource a new speaker but seems like they are as rare as rocking horse sh*t. So.... Ive decided to ditch both speakers and replace them with something different.
This is where you guys come in..Anybody any ideas what I should drop in the cab as replacements? They are gonna have to handle the low B on my 5 string as well as the octave down when I use the octaver.
Much helpness very wanted, fankoo.
Kev

Watford Valves have very keen price's on speakers!
always worth checking if they have what you need!

I replaced two blown black widows in my bass cabs (peavey mega subs) with two eminence kappa pro LF's ok they were 15", but the quality sounds as good as the peaveys did, though not cheap at £130 each (15") they do the pro series in 10" also

Hi Kev, Whatever you replace the speakers with, make sure they have a similar spec or that the speaker will match the volume and design of the Cab. The Cab will have been designed around those speakers and just putting a similar sized speaker in won't always work, believe me i have been there.
I have had a look at the spec sheets on Eminence's web-site and these would probably do the job as they are fairly forgiving spec wise and £ 50 for a pair plus carriage, (£6.95 +Vat with Interparcel), should do nicely.

Chris, be careful what you replace the Peavey speaker with. Speaker Cab design is a bit of a black art and the Peavey Cab will have been designed around the driver.
The most forgiving of the Eminence range for Effective Volume are Gamma 15 and the new Neo designs. Don't use Delta's as they need really big cabinets to work well.
I have just taken delivery of a Zoot 1x15 Compact that i got Mike Walsh to build using an Electrovoice design. Shoved the neo driver in and it is awesome. Only weighs 36Lbs as well.
We could do with trying to transfer topics like this to the PlayPen so they are easy to find.
This subject comes up quite often.

"yeah, check with whoever your buying off that the speaker spec is compatible."

Trouble is they probably won't know Chris. They will probably just say it'll be OK to get the sale.
Only people who could hand on heart give that sort of answer are the Cab Designers. They know the Effective volume, Port sizes etc. etc. and they will want to sell you one of their speakers as a replacemnt, ??(which will have been made by Emminence, Celestion, Jenson etc.)

Hi Kev. i would try to replace it with another Aashdown Driver iff poss, when mine went i did buty another 2nd hand 4x10 with 1 blown and 1 going, ie 2 spare ,which are now used , but i had an empty cab left lol.
at the time i was looking at 2 x Eminence cones at £32 each, i think they were Kappa Pro's which i thought was ok.as i used these b4 in a 15" set up and they are awesome
try the Ashdown site for spares ,but they are dear m8, you may as well look for a cheap 2x10 cab on Fleabay
