Line 6 Pocket Pod

Bought one the other day - Thought I'd give it a lil review

Bought my new Les Paul the other day and managed to get a good deal on a Line 6 Pocket Pod.

I spend most of my time in the computer room, so there's no space to fit my amp in, so I needed something small that I could plug headphones in, or plug into the computer.

After taking it out of the box I was surprised how small it was (maybe not completely pocket size), big enough not to lose down the sofa but small enough to carry around. You have an input for your guitar and two ouputs (headphone, and AMP out).

The pod comes with about 300 preset sounds, suprisingly most are actually VERY useable. I was astonished when the "memphis" and "austin blues" presets worked perfectly when jamming along to some SRV. I can remember a few years back when I bought an effects unit it was filled with totally useable alien sounds. Dont worry, this unit does have a few of the more zany sounds, but they are tucked away thankfully.

You can also create your own sounds, from an array of effects, chorus, flange, gain, delay, tremolo, treble, bass, mid e.t.c - You also have a bunch for amp simulators to choose from so you can hear the difference in tones from different outputs.

Ive always been a bit warey of digital effects unit, in that they gave out an over processed sound, but I must admit you get some pretty authenticated tones,.. perhaps not at the gigging level, but perfect for practising and jamming.

re: les paul

Apparently Gibson has priced fixed them globally. I rang a few places and they were all selling them for £1,699. Could have grabbed last years model for around £1,300, but didnt like any of the colours.

Managed to get a good discount off the Pocket Pod, and got a free lee osker harmonica, and strings/picks e.t.c - So not too bad.

Im happy Ive got a USA Gibson Les Paul. You might think I paid over the odds, or could have got a better guitar for my money... But.. I dont give a poop. You're all just jealous! lol

I'd be lost without my X3Live. I use it all the time for musical collaborations recorded on my PC. Line6 are very good at that.

I use the Pod XT Pro (with 'bass pack' models) in my live rack, and I love it...

I have a Pocket Pod for messing around on with guitar at home, and it's pretty good - especially if you ditch the presets and start with a basic amp sim... the little Fender tweeds are very usable, and the sim of the Fender Twin is nice... some of the higher gain sims aren't as convincing though... but for the money, it's a good little gadget

re new Les Paul - good on yer! might as well get the guitar you want rather than the 'sensible' choice... you'd never be happy til you got the one your heart was set on.. may as well get it now :) I see a Les Paul a bit like a Rickenbacker 4003 bass... ridiculously overpriced, but if you want THAT particular sound, nothing else will really do... the advantage is Les Pauls are fairly common, and new Rick basses have about a 12 month waiting list

Is the line 6 any good through a valve amp.
Had a few effects and cant seem to get a decent sound with my Marshall JVM.Great on its own but i need a few effects for certain songs.
Had a boss GT8 with my marshall vintage modern and it sounded poor.
