Stop this nonsense, please.

Can we all just stop with the nonsense?

NWB - Key words are North West, bands, music, gigs, reviews, venues, bookings, promo.

Take the other shit to the playpen. You're turning this place into a fucking shambles [/rant]

Of course it does matey. I notice with interest that Socialtornado is one of the few people giving The Dalek some troll food on the blog.

I agree totally. That's why I prefer a forum based site. The type I admin on.
There is always a clearly defined 'off topic area'.... ie the playpen.
There is (admittedly) some utter tripe posted in here.

The rules have been explained, so deletion without explanation is probably the way forward.

By all means fend off the troll. Fend him off with reasoned argument, or ignore him. Filling the blogs with drivel only drags down the quality of the blogs.

I'm all for community spirit. This is a music community. If you want to talk about chocolate, go set up www.northwestchocolate.co.uk. or take it to the playpen, which was introduced for that very purpose.

How should we deal with the troll then?

John - thank you for noticing "with interest". The only food I am giving Dalek is food for thought.

I started the whole chocolate thing as on another fourm I have been a member of for years we find talking about something totally unrelated to the trolls post drives them away.
Sorry if I have offended but why is this taken so seriously?

Best wishes

John

And this is the very reason why online communities end up falling apart, if a blog doesn't interest you don't read it. If posts just start dissapearing people will just stop using it simple as!

Avatar

# Posted by John Wilkinson: - 27/11/2009, 14:19 (GMT)

No you are clearly feeding him attention. He did not reply to any of the chocolate posts only when you attempted to take him on.

Do what I do with the troll - just ignore it. If noone replies, it will just drop off the end unnoticed.

Even as the chocoholic that I am it seemed a bit daft. Try and reason with him, I think he's made a couple of half decent points.

# Posted by ST Photography - VIVA LA COMMU... - 27/11/2009, 14:22 (GMT)

John - no offence taken. I just think there are more appropriate ways to deal with it. In my opinion, diverting the conversation to something completely unrelated only goes to show that you have no argument against what was posted and also runs the risk of driving away people other than the intended target.

# Posted by ST Photography - VIVA LA COMMU... - 27/11/2009, 14:24 (GMT)

And I've said this before. I am not against having fun, nor am I the blog police. I would just like to see the blogs kept relevant and off topic blogs in the play pen.

Avatar

# Posted by ~ THE SUG4R BULLETS ~ - 27/11/2009, 14:28 (GMT)

Look its simple: the guy was/is a total timewaster who's only mission was to wind everyone up - he had no argument whatsoever. So what if people posted stuff totally unrelated, it's only a laugh for gods sake...or have we forgot how to laugh in this country now??

I sincerely hope the sites not gonna get moderated like f**k, thats a sure way to kiss goodbye to the users here.

We won't allow trolls on here.
I will stand corrected if anyone was put off by this( apart from yourself and The Kerbcrawlers)

and who took my comment of the darleks blog, isn't that my choice????
i lost a point for that, thats one less argos voucher at christmas!!!!..
only kidding guys, but surely, its part of our makeup, if it wasn't for the fun, why would we be doing this.... FOR THE MONEY???
I dont have a clue who you guys are, i hope to meet you all someday, talking about daft things brings this comunity closer i think!!

Ahhh my power knows no bounds.....but I didn't remove the blogs :oD Not guilty your honour!

By virtue of the fact that the play pen was set up (and there was demand for a play pen) I think we can assume that the issue of relevance is one that has been around for some time.

I would like to see - but in no way have any control over - the blogs being relevant to our core business of music/promo/gigs and everything else in the playpen.

No-one is being moderated, just directed to another part of the website dedicated to what some people round here consider to be "fun" i.e. fart jokes and chocolate.

I accept that my opinion is shared by the minority.

The Play Pen would be the ideal place for this BUT its been labelled the play pen and for that reason many avoid it. Perhaps rebadging it to Off Topic or Randomness would make it more agreeable. Just a thought

ST has a point, wouldn't want to see the site filled up with crap.

Mind you, it was fun posting all that chocolate stuff cos we were making a valid point, albeit not in a conventional way perhaps.

Credit to Dalek, he's got us all bloggin!

# Posted by Film One - 27/11/2009, 14:51 (GMT)

I quite like the structure of the blogs, maybe blogs could be flagged as "business" and "pleasure" with the option to filter between them, so if daft stuff gets post in business it gets moved or deleted and the author gets a wrap on the knuckles!

Avatar

# Posted by John Wilkinson: - 27/11/2009, 15:20 (GMT)

You are quite correct that I will not argue with what a troll posts.
Lets look at the sequence of events.
Troll posts drivel about cover bands which is designed to wind most of bands on here up.
Gets lots of abuse and argument back which was then removed.
Troll comes back on with ludicrous suggestion about cover bands playing for FREE at venues for month. I start to fight back by using tactic which I have seen work on other forums
Loads of other band members and at least one venue joins in. Troll only leaps up when people try and justify an argument against him. Probably sat at his pc waiting for attention.
Posts get deleted.
This blog starts.
Troll will get all excited again now we at each others throats so I will bow out now.
I think the Dalek tosser is in an original sub standard Korn rip off band who can't play and therefore can't get gigs and is pig jealous of anyone with any talent at all. I will sleep sound knowing he can't get gigs.

That is all from me on the subject.

Best wishes to all bands this weekend

John

Im now deleting any blogs which are irrelevant, and also closing the comments option on some other blogs.

I'll be giving some moderation facilities to some undisclosed NWB members, so they can keep an eye on things as well.

I totally agree with John on every point made.

Also I find the play pen a lot less user friendly if was set up more like the community blog I would be more inclined to use it.

And besides its Friday the start of the weekend so why not let people vent a little steam in anyway they see fit, it was only a bit of fun after all.

just 1 question Mr NWB sir, what do you class as irrelevant?? musicains having a joke about stuff on a musicians website?? this seems a little harsh, I think that if a "muso" (and i use that term very loosely, as we dont know who the darlek is, could by bruce dickinson, then we would feel like asses)has anything to say, we should listen and respond. unless its racist or extremely vulgar, why delete it?

me and some NWB pals were talking about the issue of some recent negativity ere at our st helens gig and some of us feel quite distressed and disappointed about it :-(, fortunately we manage to bring themes back to the good stuff (discussing favourite this and that along with music and equipment related banter and open discussion)

i like the way you allow opinions whether good or bad to remain aired as everybody has a right to opinion of course while keeping the blog forum appropriate and lively , its every easy for people to get wound up in any kind of forum, and maybe we can all look at something we dont agree with and sometimes sit back and say "hey thats their opinion" and leave it there, it is also good as well of course to question opinions , which is human nature,

both work and are valid things to do

Rob

Err Why ????

The popularity of this site is purely becaues we can discuss openly what we feel is fun , relevant and yes also shite !
Now coming in witha jack boot attitude, and basicly spies is gonna kill this site completely ,

Look at your Ever poular Playpen !

For fucks sake why dont the near MARY wHITEHOSE Brigade just not read any blogs that piss them off, as the meerkat says ,Simples !
Better still paul , why even let the blog get going in the first place ehh ? you bviousley have the power to edit and delete and have done loads of times in the past ,even on blogs that i thought were relevant and shouldnt have been , and yet also like this crap (which i didnt get drawjn into ! )you have allowed to run
Sorry but as i see it , the exhisting usual members that care to come on night after night and have fun and frolics and obviously music related posts , are the ones that keep this site a happy and enjoyable thing to do on a mundane week. take that away with yer spies etc , and it will be pure shite !.

a forum is a forum ie, free speeach ,even if some dont like it , hell i have been drawn into enough daft blogs on here in onlu 8 months , but i dont whine on about how upset i am or how irelevant thats got to do with music ,

LIGHTEN UP GUYS FOR FUCKS SAKE
Like you said above....

If you have issue with a single member, please send them a PM, or comment.

Then again after the Gestapo have reported us, we could allways have them shot at dawn ehh ?

Viking, I've had the exact same conversation on the site I moderate.

Your question assumes that NWB is a democracy. It is not in any way. Suggestions are accepted gladly on how to improve the site, but at the end of the day there is ONE person that spends all his time keeping this place running, and as far as we are concerned, he is God.

And before anyone mentions donations, they do not give anyone any rights of ownership. I've chipped in but know it is a voluntary contribution and nothing more. It's merely a gesture aiding the person that works bloody hard keeping this site up and running. It's a thankyou, not a share certificate.

Anyone who thinks that this is just "the internet and I can say what I bloody well want" should take note of this. I say should, because it'll not happen. lol.

@ bad horsie (mick)- h'mm-perhaps-the question always applies, in my view-whether it aimed at a dictatorship or a democracy.
experience tells me it is always a good idea to question those who would "rule" us? if they are reasonable people, with no hidden agendas, they will accept the scrutiny with good grace. if not-enough said. clearly, if one does not like the way a site is being run then there is always the option to leave-or bite one's tongue and accept the t&c's de facto.

@Viking

Weeeell it's not really down to us to monitor the motivation of an individual who runs a website that we don't HAVE to come to (for no financial outlay).

If it said on the front page "welcome to NorthWestBands. Feel free to be a cunt!" it'd be a different matter. ;o)

@ bad horsie(mick)-true-however- "if you don't like it, f*ck off" doesn't seem to me to be a good way of winning friends and influencing people? whatever happened to listening to differing view points and, perhaps, changing one's own to widen one's perspective?
