If Carling did gigs

They'd probably do them at Marigolds!

Is this the best gig on the circuit? I couldn't possibly say, because we haven't been invited to them all, but for Kingpin, it's a blast.

Strange night in Darwen last night. We were all set up and sound checked by 11.00, so we decided to stroll into town to see what was going on. The town centre was deserted and The Millstones didn't have a band on (apparently they cancelled), but had managed to get a DJ and maybe had 20-30 in. So we carried on up the road, past The Bridgewater (rammed with young 'uns) to Frankie's Bar. The Pleasers were just finishing their set - a couple of Who numbers and then Born To Be wild - and sounded really good. Unfortunately, the place was virtually empty.

Thinking it was going to be a lost night we trudged back to Marigolds, and went on to do our first set at 12.20, to about 30 people. By 1.00 there must have been over a hundred in, all dancing and singing along, and by the time we hit the stage for the 2nd set at about 1.30, the place was hammered. Seriously, if someone had fainted in the midddle they wouldn't have fallen down! We were supposed to finish at 2.00, but after 2 encores (and they really wouldn't let us go - the chanting had the hairs on the back of my neck standing up) we finally got off at 2.35.

Lindsey, Vicky and gang - what a great team and what a great venue.

i would have wished you Merry christmas, but we're back on in a fortnight!! See you and most of Darwen again then.

I shudve been 'dep-drumming' with the band at millstones last night - their drummers broke his leg - oops!
got a call earlier in week to say they werent bothering for whatever reason.
Fortunately the Willows in bolton had a cancellation last minute so luckily shine were free to play...happy days!! (saved any embarrassment of not being able to go cos i was drumming elsewhere haha!)

Yeah it's a late 'un, but well worth it. Brilliant venue, probably one of the best crowds in the country let alone the area! We can't wait to go back!

Cheers for the review Al - thought you guys were fantastic last night. We're chuffed that other bands think so highly of us too!!

About the late start, we used to be an 11:30 start but a combination of the longer licensing laws and a few of our old regular bands not wanting to go on until they felt the place was full enough for them to, meant that customers started to drift in later. It's why we prefer to have the bands on around 12ish and ideally no later than 12:15.

So see you in a couple of weeks on 'Mad Friday' and if you thought last night was good you'll love it!!
