and does it cause you any grief

ok I have a duo called a touch 2 much, we have had the name since I was about 13 so well before the ac/dc record came out, but we still get asked on numerous occasions to do it. Don't get me wrong ..its a great song , but I didn't name my band after it...
I also have a three piece band called touching cloth...no prizes for guessing where that came from or the comments we get from it either lol.

so whats the story with your band name ?

re Hare Of The Dog, my recent former band,

ive always seem to come up with pub and drink related band names, hair of the dog popped into my head, then a friend of mine Sue said to spell hair differently a la def lep and led zep, so there ya go :-) we were gonna put a hare and a dog on the pic(andy found the dog pic which i them customised and added the curly hair), but i just came up with the idea of the dog having a look at a nice pint !!

I'd love to have a band in my name!! How cool is that. Mick i didn't know about the pedal or the song, but got to know about them through you indirectly!

theBigFish - weird this, just thought up on the spur of the moment - wasn't even thinking of "the best" or "in a small pond" etc .. just happened.

Fnarr! Fnarr! - from Viz .. we were originally Fnarr! Fnarr! and the Finbarr Saunders Brass Ensemble. Well we WERE only young!! LOL

Good blog btw James!

hair of the dog is also a cool song by Nazareth, also wanted to change the spelling to make it a little more unique

people we knew thought We got our name from the place we used to practice at "the railway" club at rose grove in Burnley, however it was also somebody watching us at practice when we had one of those mad moments of jamming and the guy who was watching us said you lot are a load of lunatics your "off the rails".we would change it but we`ve had it for quite a while now.

One of the bands I played in "Hard cash", played in the open on friday night in the middle of preston town center outside the Market tavern and it starterd raining, we had got our electricity from some strange looking sockets on the metal supports off the old covered market (apparently an unearthed supply)we were surrounded by onlookers listening to the band and it started raining, when the lead and rythmn guitarist leaned together using one mike to sing electricity arked accross their noses, we stopped playing and asked the crowd had anybody got any rubber souled shoes on or "old tennis shoes" we can borrow ?, some time later the band split and the reformed band became "Old tennis shoes".lol

we used to be ac/dc tribute ac/do and we are just riding on with more ac/dc, so we had to be called ride on.

I have no idea, but i guess we did a search on how many bands were already called Phoenix, and called ourselves Phoenix.

We called ourselves Face Value after Phil Collins first solo album as at first we were just a Phil tribute.
Bit of a millstone now as we play far more Genesis songs than Phil.
May need to look at name in new year ;-)
Best wishes
John

I'm a big fan of the Marx Brothers and our name came their film 'A Night At The Opera'.
Groucho: It's all right. That's in every contract. That's what they call a sanity clause.
Chico: Ha-ha-ha! You can't fool me. There ain't a-no Sanity Clause!

I had a 16 year sabbatical from live bands and then out of the blue I was asked to jam with some guys who had sacked their singer.Their next gig was 6 days later, but they insisted on a name change.Feeling sorry for myself I suggested In at the Deep End!

LAST GANG IN TOWN
we are a 70's Punk tribute/covers band and are named after a song on the Clash's 2nd album 'Give 'em enough rope' called 'Last Gang In Town'
The idea was that we'd be the last, and oldest, band hanging on to the fading memories of our youth when the whole Punk thing started.....plus, the nostalgia thing tends to help with the bonding between 'old' punks and we all feel part of a private 'gang'.
Band and audience, as one, united in the love and nostalgia of the 70's Punk scene which we try our best to recreate.....
I'm very proud to say 'I came up with the name'
However, our original drummer, who claimed to be the original Macc Lads drummer Stez Styx, hated our name and put forward his own suggestion....'The Monkey Spankers'......hhhmmmmmm

At the turn of the century, I worked with a boy band called More. The great thing about that was when they played with bands like Atomic Kitten and Blue, at the end of their sets, the crowd were always asking for our band - funny that ;-)

@John FV
I think your name sums up perfectly what you're doing, after all, all the songs you do have Phil Collins in the originals, which is more than you can say about the other members of Genesis, and you aren't doing any Mike & The Mechanics or Peter Gabriel material.

"Zaphod beebrox and the pangalacticgargleblasters" I was huge Douglas adams fan

"Isambard kingdom brunel and the bouncing buisuit barrel eaters" Steven Partington dreamed that one up

"Zyclon B" I only joined this band for a few days back in he old punk days very NON PC name and wouldnt be approproate for any know of anti racism gigs, (despite not havening any racists in the band/ all public school hooray henrys Ive no idea how they picked that appaling name

"stag" we had a big sign that said "stage" but the "e" snapped off so we called ourselves stag

"Kudas" keyboard player orded a load of Tshirts and he didnt know how to spell "Kudos" which was the brand of speakers the vocalist was using. (and the band name up until that point)

"Wet fish Groovers" Ive no idea ask Jonny Clarke

My old band was called The Roadrunners. They had been going for about 599 years before I joined and are down in the history books as playing at Henry VIII's 2nd wedding.

When the drummer left, it was felt that the name of the group should change for two reasons - one: that the old group was in effect no more and two; that the guitarist wanted to take the chance to change our style somewhat.

My wife jokingly said 'Are The Kerbcrawlers out tonight?' several times at weekends and I thought that the name was sick enough and in the same vein, so it would ring a bell with people and was also seedy enough to be remembered.

The band is just about as loud and nasty (at times) as it was back then, but we have no intention of resurrecting the old name, as has been suggested, even to pocket some decent dosh at biker bashes, which still gets offered for the old group a few times every year.

We used to be called Square One after Coldplay's first song from X&Y but changed to Viva la Coldplay after Viva la Vida when we had a 9 month break.. With the Coldplay in the name its far more recognisable for what we do I guess!

Catdog . What can I say ? It`s a cartoon....best thing on telly.
I tell people the name and they look at me a bit bemused, usually muttering the words "what the fuck ....?"
seven years ago, even the band thought it was a shit name, it`s funny how a name grows on you and seems to stick.
