Help!

Alright guys, we're about to start looking at getting us some lights for our bookings next year and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on something?

I recently saw Stipe (REM tribute, brilliant band as well) and they had these 2 lights on the floor which gave off a superb lightshow, they wer'nt par cans or anything but I can only describe them as 2 boxes with 4 barndoors on.. They looked like LED's from the inside (4 different panels) but the effects they got off them were really amazing..

We just don't have the room for the goalpost style lighting and thought these would be absolutely ideal portable solution for us.

Anyone know what I should be looking at? Anyone recommend anything similar perhaps?

Sorry to sound like a noob but I know naff all about lights!

they sound like they were the icolour lighting boxes. they are truly brilliant gadgets but they cost about 400 each (at last time of checking) we really wanted some a while backbut they are just so dear. the best thing is the "overall blend" that they give. as you look at them they look like 4 seperate bulbs but as they shed light they blend together and you can get some GREAT effects. think when i was looking the cheapest place to get them was thomann. try there and dont forget to click on the link thru NWB so it gives some money back this way! best of luck

just found a really good deal on em @ www.decks.co.uk, sorry i cant post a link im on mi works computer and it wont let me. but you get the icolor 4 kit which is two heads and a controller for 369.00 or if you want stands and case its 509.00 there in stock and the delivery is free. they are pricey but if you can afford it you wont get better. if you can as well try ringing opus in burnley coz they used to do good deals on them. AND theyve got a cellar where they do FULL demonstrations for ya.

Again thanks Ben.. Will pass that info onto the band, we've got a couple of good paying gigs next month and will probably just use the cash on the lights!

NJD? Quartets are similar, but more compact...on ebay around £270. 300w bulbs as opposed to the icolours 500w...but that means they'll run happily off one plug ie total 2400w as opposed to 4000w.
i've had both, but sold the icolours last year in favour of the quartets..less bulky, lighter and not as noisy. Bear in mind though that the icolours are dmx controllable and run their own show, whereas the quartets need a controller

I use the njd spectre , same body size as the quartet but just with 3 x 500 watt bulbs, dmx controller very small and all sorts of colour mix functions and brightness settings. realy good lights, never had a problem with em. Thinks they're about £350 for a pair inc controller, but you might get em cheaper on ebay

+1 For NJD Quartets. Nice and compact and can be used on stands or floor monted. The lights, controller etc. all pack away in a neat box as well. We picked ours up for £160 on e-Bay and were practically brand new.

Hi Viva La Coldplay,

I do sell the iColors mate but I don't keep them in stock.
If you rang me and I said I didn't have them I may have misled you. I can usually get them within 2 days if the distributors have them in stock.

£500 is about right for the full kit but you can buy everything individually to build the kit up although this costs a little more in the end.

We use them and Phoenix got theirs from me. I changed the 500 watt lamps for 300W, they are standard floodlight tubes at about a quid each, used them for 4 years and never replaced a blown lamp. They are the biz.
