A mini review

I arrived late at the Banner in Hindley so didn't get to experience a lot of the bands. From what I heard from the folks there it was a success though, which means the charity wins, which is the whole point of the event. 8o)

What I saw:

A: Rick holding the event side and Trig holding the sound side together. Ricks kit moved from room to room and didn't appear to suffer for it and Trig got on top of the sound like a pro despite having to put the desk behind the PA. Well done Rick and Anne and D&A PA for providing the vehicle for bands and solo players to give to the charity.

B: Dean Casement Trio. Heard about 30 mins of these guys. Not too sure who Dean was as I didn't get a chance to chat after their set. Great, tight trio. The singer/guitar player has the Hendrixish blues rock vibe nailed. :o)

C: Metaleeka....Yes, I'm biased because Scott is a REALLY good friend, but.... After having been together such a short length of time I was surprised and delighted how good they were. I'm not a big Metallica fan, but appreciate a good live band and they were excellent.

D: Well done Grooverman & Co for putting a band together for the finale. We ahd to leave 3 songs in but thoroughly enjoyed what we heard. I guess when the vocals, bass and drums got brought up into the mix it was rocking! :o)

It was great to see so many NWB band members out supporting the event.

What I didn't see:

Heard great reports about the buskers ball stuff in the main bar. Well done Alec!

Wish I'd seen Steelfield, but they are local to us soon so I can remedy that.. 8o)

I was there from the beginning and had to leave around 9pm. Must say, the atmosphere was brilliant and met a lot of very down to earth people with absolutely no ego problems. Saw a few bands for the first time and was very impressed.
Idle promise kicked things off with a cracking set, mixing new and old stuff perfectly, well done guys.
Dakota were on fine form (after the feeback problem was sorted lol) with some cracking tunes done very well indeed.
Sugar Bullets were awesome, making me feel young again with some classic punk stuff I've not heard for years. So nice to meet Dean the drummer (and what a drummer) a truly top bloke.
Alec kept us all entertained in the Buskers Ball (you never close your eyes anymore lol) another top bloke.
Massive thanks to James, Woody and Phil from Steelfield for letting me get up and attempt to sing with them (so sorry for cocking up 'Beast'), a fantastic bunch of musicians and thoroughly nice guys to.
Caught the first 20 mins of Dean Casement Trio, one word.........WOW!
power blues at its bast, a really tight performance and excellent musicianship.

Nice to meet Charlie & Norma and Keef for the first time and always great to see the amazing Dee & Dave.
Have a great new year folks and I'm honoured to know such a fantastic bunch of people
Mark

cheers Mick, really enjoyed there was a great social atmosphere, no egos to be seen anywhere, i really had a lot of fun socializing,so much so, that almost wanted to carry on chatting instead of playing, (dropped a couple of Guinness related clangers which im not proud of, always easy to remember the bloopers ha ha) , im usually a water or soft drink dude for metalleeka gigs, which will definitely continue now ha ha
very chuffed with master of puppets, the cheers that accompanied the start of the clean bit were very welcome!!(maybe that was from a "theyre gonna play the whole 8 minutes of it" perspective?........

the other music i witnessed was superb, great to meet some new people

On behalf the 3 steelfielders, it was a pleasure to play infront such a great crowd and be the bandaoke for Marc and Scott, two great friends of the band.

Much plaudits to everyone who turn up. Especially Rick, Anne and Trig for their hard work.

What a day! It was an absolute pleasure being involved yesterday, we enjoyed every minute of playing and watching the other bands.

For me personally it was just as enjoyable finally meeting people I've been speaking to on here for so long...Mark from Anthem you are a top bloke mate really good to finally meet you, the legendary Keef see you soon buddy, the even more legendary Alec from NT/BB you have an awesome voice, Charlie and Norma, Trig & Dakota (thanks for proving the sound guys), Scott from Metaleeka a truly down to earth fella I wish he'd come back on here, Dave and Dee from Hindley Arms, Roj from Twin Lizzy, all of Idle Promise and the fantastic DC Trio...great to see you again Deano & Mike. And I apologise if I've missed anyone off...such a great atmosphere with loads of like-minded people.

Finally a massive thanks to Rick for putting on such a successful event, everyone really showed their support for the Charity and I hope there's been a good sum raised. Can't wait to do it all again.

Love and respect from all of The Sugar Bullets

Dean.

We got there about 3.45ish, so unfortunately missed Idle Promise..sorry lads. The pub was absolutely heaving which was a good sign for the charity. We met some lovely lovely people, Rick & Anne , Keef, Trig, Mark (Anthem) Dean(Bullets) Dave & Dee(Hindley Arms), Baz(Tuskan)
Dakota was the first band we saw, first time for us and we weren't
disappointed ..they were brill. Sugar Bullets and Dean Casement Trio were equally fantastic sets. How on earth we missed Steelfield in the other room is beyond me!!!!!, but will see you lads this Sat at the Crikkies.........And Metaleeka...well after Rob got his sound sorted out!!!(couldn't hear you for the first three numbers) were excellent, theyv'e come such a long way in a very short time. First time we've seen them, but won't be the last.
We had to leave shortly after that, so sadly missed Daz & his Wet Fish Groovers...sorry mate, and to rub salt into the wound he showed me earlier a case which could only be his bagpipes, so I'll bet it was a grand finale.

Big thanks to Rick, Anne and all the helpers and Staff at The Banner for making it such a memorable day
