New Year, New Venture

now, whos up for a laugh, doing summat different?

I know most of you are hard rockin, hard living, hard of hearing, rip it up, roll it out kinda guys. How?..'cos Ive been here a while under my other persona!..But.... I've seen the future..and it aint garlic bread!
I'm looking for someone to join me on my journey to boldly go where no man has gone before ( well..they have, yeh, but it sounds good right? )
I am : Bass player/backing vocals, with all the equipment needed for this project,,pa, lights etc
You are : Guitar player/lead singist, mostly rhythm but able to play lead licks when required, with a voice that is adaptable to all styles/genres.
The Project: To form a duo playing jump up and down, dance like yer dad, party choons (think Mavericks, CCR, Monkees, to name but a few).
The Plan : To play venues that are looking to put on live music without specalizing in 1 genre and that like the idea of a party night. Or, even venues that do specialize but fancy a change 1 night. To maybe develop the idea to include a live band Kareoke option.
Summary : This venture will include the use of backing tracks, (OH NOOOOOOO!!,,SHOCK,,HORROR,,mutter,mutter..keep music live..mutter mutter). The idea is stil in the formative stage although fairly advanced. I am in the Crewe area and have gig contacts locally but happy to expand into different areas. I am already a member of a band so, initially, this is a side project. I am looking to develop a set list of around 100 choons initially (not as difficult as it sounds!) as one idea is to put a list out for the audience to put in requests..hence the name Duke Bocks (get it?..yeh I know,I know!). To develop the kareoke idea I would be looking to expand the list to around 200 songs. I did this for 4 years previously and we were gigging for around £400 a night between 4 of us, so you do the maths between 2 of us!!.
Phew...Ok..thats the idea..now...anybody up for it????

Well...I started out as a drummer but, 5 skins, 2 dozen sticks and a rather bent ajax cymbal later, the guys asked if I'd ever thought of taking up bass!

Good luck with your 'side'... I see the purest in you being in denial for this venture. The most important part of ANY musical event is your audience. Giving them what 'they' want is so refreshing an attitude to take these days. Most punters want to hear song they know and can sing and dance to. It pays the wages too... I know a lot of brilliant skint musicians who stick out to play the mantra. A landlord needs to fill his pub to pay your wages and if 'Amarillo' and '500 Miles' can do it... then follow the sun.

Happy new Year to you Kev. Not sure you could do it if you were planning on using Mini disc, but it's quite easy with Midi.
If you want a chat any time, give me a shout.

Stuart. I use a Roland M-GS64 sound expansion box to play my midi files out of Cubase. Gaz reckons the best way is to pan the drum channel one way and pan the other tracks down the opposite channel in the Roland and record onto mini disc, link the mini disc player to desk, 1 channel to drum amp through monitor mix, opp channel to FOH and mix drums back through DI. Kill all reverb on the roland output to avoid any bleed over the channels and apply any needed reverb post record through the FX unit on the desk. At least I think thats what he said..think I'll just get him over to set the bugger up and I'll just press the button..lol

Ah, that makes sense....
For what you are doing the mini disk route is probably much better than our solution. Our sets have to be agreed beforehand, but doing what you are doing i guess you need fast access to all your material.
I reckon it is a winner Kev, so good luck matey.
