Great night but the worst we have ever played
The question is which is better to play badly and go down really well or to play well and going down ok. Well we certainly played badly but the night was superb. Our sound check was awful with a couple of us forgetting the notes and unfortunately the pub was getting full by this time. This set us off on the wromg foot and although we did Message in a Bottle ok to start with Jumpin Jack Flash really was bad with one of us playing it in a totally wrong key. The pub was packed by this time and confidence had taken a knock so by the fourth song when one of my leads decided to send a horrible squeching noise through the speaker we were at rock bottom. What a night for it to happen. Anyway we got through the first set and picked ourselves up in the break. The second set went better and better and the third set after midnight was fantastic. We finally finished at quater to two with the whol;e pub dancing and on their seats and tables. Definately a night of two halves although hardly anyone noticed we had played so badly in the first set. Pity is you do know personally how bad you have played compared to other nights and it does take the edge off things but I suppose its personal pride more then anything. Julie and Graham the landlady and landlord were overjoyed the crowd loved it and the pub was packed and we got £50 extra and we enjoyed it in the end so I suppose thats all that matters
