53 Degrees North were 5 30 something's who came from the same town in Lancashire and in April 2010 were joined by a talented drummer; Nicola. They comprised of:
The lads had all known each other since schooldays (except Steven who was at school a bit before the rest of us - sorry Steve!), and had pretty much all been in bands with each other at some point before. Prior to forming 53 Degrees North, all of us had been out of the scene for a while and had been lured back into music - live performance is what we all love.
We played a fair old mixture of stuff - Kaiser Chiefs, the Ataris, Foo Fighters, Him, Green Day, Sex Pistols, Kings of Leon, Stereophonics and many others. The common theme throughout was our passion for the music we played - we all enjoyed every single track. Our shows were fast-paced, and we introduced new tracks at almost every gig.
We've always had problems with drummers and this lead to the talented Mr Fish producing some very high quality backing tracks for live use. They have served us well, but we've always felt that something was missing. Luckily, at a jam night, we met Nicola, who was the resident drummer, struck up a conversation with her, and agreed to have a rehearsal together. Since that time, she was fully-fledged member of the North (although since she's a drum-aholic, she also plays with another fantastic band - Reload - and still goes to many a jam night round the northwest).
Our live sound was greatly helped by having our good friend Steven acting as band sound tech. Our kit is a 4kW Peavey/Behringer hybrid rig that works fantastically in a small pub or large club.
If you'd like to know what we sounded like then check out our Facebook page. There are a couple of original tracks on there as well as some live stuff and some covers recorded in Youdsy's attic. .
